    Default CHP'd or Cheesey Riders?

The other day, the Bride and I were riding down I20 in the Mid-cities area. We passed 2 'Motorcycle Cops' standing at the side of the road just over the crest of the hill and before an entrance ramp.
As we passed, one of them stepped into traffic with both hands up as if trying to stop traffic! The other one got on his motorcycle and came roaring up through traffic - splitting lanes, weaving in and out - with his GREEN and YELLOW lights flashing and blowing his horn! As he passed me, I noticed 2 things - his uniform had a DFW shield on the shoulder, and the string of cars entering the freeway all had their hazard lights flashing (illegal in Texas for a moving vehicle). This was a major distraction since I couldn't decide if I should stop, move to the left, or "Punch the gas and end the suspense".
By now Mr. Stop-Sign-in-the-freeway has mounted and comes roaring up too. He got beside me, slowed down drastically, and started weaving in and out of traffic behind me. Just in time, I glanced in the mirror and saw Mr. Stop-Sign-in-the-freeway cut in front of a jacked-up PU a little too closely!
    BAM
The scooter went sideways, pitched to the high side and launched the rider into a double sommersault. The front wheel of the bike then grabbed the road, twisted as far as it would go and shot the bike into the air a good 8 feet above and fortunately behind the rider. Just as it started back down, the rider completed his second sommersault - landing on his feet with his hands on his hips as if he meant to do all of that!!! As his motorcycle smashed into the concrete and parts flew everywhere, he turned and calmly walked across 3 lanes of I20 to the left shoulder! By now EVERYONE behind him had stopped.
We passed the hearse and family cars a few exits further down the road, so they are obviously some kind of funeral escort service.
    All of that to say:
"Who are these people, and who told them they should do that?"
Who thinks this is a good idea? Who trained them? Who convinced them it was a good idea to risk their lives for a corpse?
Are they the love children of Evil Knievel and Barney Fife?!?

OKOK I deserved that, but since I was with Kestrel and Altiain last night, and the rant was as long as one of their's, it just seemed the right thing to do.
    :) :o :afro:
