Commiefornia is a different place with very unusual vehicle laws. While we might see local police targeting modified cars I don't think Texas would allow it to this level. Historically Texans are very opposed to big government.
This is absolutely absurd. It presumed guilt. If it's modified he must street race.I never had trouble with my car when I lived there but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it.

If it is illegal, it is illegal. If the officer has reason and the courts are behind him, find a way to not give him reason. This is nothing new.
Forty years ago in Texas, if your pipes had cutouts you would be watched like a pedophile on the playground. Same thing for loud pipes, fat rear tires, shifter mounted in the floor, one of them tackymeters, etc.
You can't legally gut your catalytic converter or otherwise defeat the devices that control emissions in any state.
According to one officer I know, 75% of the time if a car is pulled over for a seatbelt or tail light, there are warrants on the driver.
While I don't condone any of this, if you want to smoke cigarettes (legal ones) and you roll your own and hold them with tweezers while driving down the street, you are going to get hassled a lot more than if you hide in the closet.

It's also illegal to drive vehicles with higher than a 10,000 lb. GVWR on most residential streets in California, but I don't see cops pulling over Excursions, H2s, and other violators. Hmmm.....

I can't imagine that the ACLU will stay out of this for long. I assume that was a police training video, and they are training profiling. It is one thing if they pulled over a car because the muffler is louder than allowed, or a car is lower than allowed, but that isn't what this video shows. It clearly shows that they are training officers to identify legal modifications and use them as justification for searching for illegal modifications. It really pulled my chain when the officer says that he pulled him over for no front plate. In truth, he should have said "you fit the profile, and Lucky for me I was allowed to pull you over for a lack of a front plate."

Actually street racing is a problem in California and has taken many innocent (meaning not involved) lives. If my family was wiped out because a punk kid slamed into them while racing, I'd want blood. The problem is real but their attempt to fix this is just plain wrong. Presumed guilt is not only un-American but illegal. If you catch the folks red-handed or they have illegal modifications that are plainly visable then fine. It's the presumed guilt and the profiling I have a problem with.
I totally agree that street racing is wrong and stupid! I just think that "Training Video" is retarded. Like the topic says I am glad I do not live there.

Putting my nit-picker's hat on...A 10000 lb GVWR generally requires dual rear wheels. There are exceptions of course, but I think the vehicles you mention will be under 8600 lb GVWR.

Well, here's a surprising piece of news. It may not be. Cities throughout California—the nation's largest car market—prohibit the heaviest SUVs on many of their residential roads. The problem is, they don't seem to know they've done it.
I discovered this secret ban after noticing the signs at both ends of my narrow Los Angeles-area street (a favorite cut-through route for drivers hoping to avoid tie-ups on bigger roads). The signs clearly prohibit vehicles over 6,000 pounds.
I knew a 6K pound limit ruled out a lot of the larger trucks that routinely rumble by my house, unpursued by traffic cops. But then I got to thinking: Could some of those bigger SUVs exceed 3 tons? So I did some research, and I hit the mother lode.
It turns out every big SUV and pickup is too heavy for my street. Here's just a sampling: The Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, the Range Rover, the GMC Yukon, the Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia, the Lincoln Navigator, the Mercedes M Class, the Porsche Cayenne S, and the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup (with optional Hemi). What about the Hummer, you ask? Hasta la vista, baby!
