Reader's Digest version of the preceeding link: Dumbass buys an RX-8 (rotaries consume oil by design), low oil light comes on, owner continues to drive around for a couple of days with low oil warning light on and doesn't bother to get out, open hood, and check oil level, then owner blames Mazda when car breaks down and Mazda refuses to warranty the motor due to owner negligence.
And you wonder why they're called idiot lights.

"The light had been on for like 2 or 3 days...."
That light tells the owner it wants oil! It's not a recommendation it a must do thing!

I would probably think that this was a hose job, except for the fact that one of my younger brothers did the same thing.
I went to move his car one day, since he had parked behind me in the drive way. When I started the car the oil light did not go out like it was supposed to. I went inside and asked him how long the oil light had been on, and his answer I will never be able to forget. "Is that what that little genie lamp is? Oh about 3 or 4 days."
