I don't think the LSBMWCCA guys have ever seen them drive the BP car, only the Mini.

    Should be fun to watch.
Didn't notice that! Always fun to watch that car. See you tomorrow morning.

I should be there in the morning to say hi & take some pictures... Sadly I've got stuff to do just barely early enough Saturday evening to preclude racing... Oh well. See you characters at McD's.

That was fun! 8 runs and I'm already home! We got stuck on the 'small' lot at Pennington (where the motorcycles usually are) and somehow the bimmer boys got 60 seconds out of it. It was very busy with offsets, lots of pivots and a few slaloms. It was a Miata and Mini friendly course for sure!

TC took some great pics and hopefully he'll be posting them soon. Miatamoto looked smooth (and fast) on course. apex2apex brought out his new '94R...very nice ride! SOLOM3 was evil as ever in the Evo laying down a sub 53 while lugnutjon was looking good in his RX-8.

I had a great time. I liked that track! It was great meeting all of you there and I look forward to more events with you guys. I'm gonna try to make it to Laps for Charity tonight at TMS.

I think I came in third in X, but I'm not sure.

    Later,
    Jerrett

The course was super tight today (designed by one of the Mini drivers) and I can't believe they were able to get 60 seconds out of that lot!

I had a lot of fun and it was good to meet jrj512, and Sammm really looked like he was scootin' out there (most likely for the X class win). Good job out there today guys, and a big thanks to Apex2Apex for validating that I don't need to go to a manual steering rack, your car was a ton of fun to drive. SOLO2M3 was indeed smokin, wish I could had asked for a ride along, that would have been a hoot!

Tailchaser, awesome pictures! Thanks for posting them. BTW, would it be OK to share your photo link with the BMWCCA forum or do you not want that much traffic on your site?

Sounds like you guys had fun. TC, what time were you out there? I must have just missed you.

Looked like a tight course. Does anyone have any idea how JOn fared today compared to Jim & Sipe? I'm curious how his car did, since I'll be driving it next weekend.

I was just invisible. I was standing behind the Mini next to the timing van.

Jim said that he has given up on street tires, so he'll be in BSP from now on. He ran a 53 flat on V710s.

Sipe was running in my class and I'm not sure what times he was running (he's switched to STU, no way that car is BS legal). I'm pretty sure I took first place with a 54.5 +1 (cones are only 1 sec), Paul Magyar (spelling?) was about .1 -.2 sec behind me in 2nd.

Jon was flyin out there and managed a 54 something on the tight course. He was happy he beat the Miatas on a Miata course.

    Oh boy, post #1...

Hello, My name is Mike Valant. I am the crazy MINI driver that managed to design a course that ran nearly 60 seconds on that tiny patch of concrete at Pennington.

I've owned a Miata since last summer, and I just now found out about this forum! Duh. Sorry I missed out until now. The forum looks VERY good, MUCH better than the BMWCCA forum (ahem), and similarly well-maintained as the MetroplexMINI.org forum.

Glad you guys liked the course - I never got out of first gear. I did manage to beat all the highly modified M3's to take my first win this year in a new class (class F, one down from G, which is "unlimited BMW"). It will probably be the only win for me this year (verses 7 wins last year in class E, ouch!).

Anyway, I already thanked Tailchaser (Lauren) via e-mail for capturing the best photos I have seen yet of my MINI at an autocross - GREAT shots.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing some Miatas at the next BMW event!

Welcome to our little bit of madness, Mike! It was impressive watches those Minis get flung around on Saturday!

Ha! Looks like those 300# front springs aren't cutting the mustard. Perhaps upping the spring rate (to 500#) with a corresponding rate increase in the rear is the way to go.
