Thread: Relocated to FTW

    Default Relocated to FTW

Greets to the miata folks in the DFW area. Moved here about a month ago after a long (25 yr) run in the KC area. I've owned several Miatas but the current toy is a 90 dedicated STS2 ride that unfortunately lives in KC for another two weeks.

I live on the east side of FTW off of Lowery Rd & Cooks Lane. Work downtown in Burnett Plaza. Did the miata club thing early on but the KC folks at the time were only interested in show n' shine & cruizin' for burgers so I fell in with the solo crowd where I continue to hang.

Met several of you last fall at the Pennington Field event when I tried to learn FWD in my Proto with OEM 420 tires.

With the yata coming down I need two referrals.
    1. Good inspection station close to the east side that might be 'understanding' of a track only car.
    2. Alignment shop that will do driver in car alignments with precision to my numbers.

And I guess a third might be watering holes frequented by top down fanatics.

Look forward to meeting as many of you as possible

Welcome, Steve. I am not too far from you -- off Trinity and Randall Mill. I just started autocrossing this season, so I did not meet you last season, but I hope to see you out there soon. There are plenty of us here.

I am not able to offer any help on your first two questions and frankly, I would also be interested in an answer to the third question.

    Later,

Being a racer, you've come to the right place. Most of us are autocross junkies or track fiends.

These are some new guys on the block, but are avid autocrossers (trophied in STU at Nationals last year) and all around nice guys. If your car is pretty close on alignment, they may be able to check it and do a corner balancing if you haven't done that yet.

I've also heard good things about Autoscope, which is in Plano (I think).

I've been getting my alignments done at a Firestone in Arlington. I bought a lifetime alignment from them and take a stack of weights to simulate me. I'm doing this b/c I'm toying around with the ride height and need to get the car aligned every time. Only problem is that me and the alignment tech don't get along.

Good luck and welcome to the madness!

Almost forgot, since you are in FW check out the Flying Saucer at Sundance square for a good selection of beer.

Hey gecko (aka. Steve E) I see ya got into MME!

I'm up in N. Ft. Worth! Welcome to the madness, I'm one of the AX junkies see ya on a parking lot real soon!

I know several around the Ft. Worth side of town have used Peterson's for an alignment, I know Altiain has used them a few times.

thanks car had been corner weighted several times. I'm looking for someone that will spend the time at shop rates with me in the car to get the numbers I want. Over the years I've learned that most generic (i.e. mass market) tire & alignment shops will give you a ballpark alignment on a Miata for not much less than what shop rates are but their variances are just horrid.

Anyone know anything about the shop on the south side of Pioneer in Arlington that appears to have an A-Sedan Mustang out front? Prefer to keep the $$$ in the SCCA family but the best alignment shop in KC for solo was actually run by a bunch of circle track modified folks. Even though they only turned left (at least on purpose) they understood what quality, precision, and most all the intent of the numbers was.

I have used petersons as well. Infact if you search for alignment here there are a few good threads that point to good service from them. Welcome to the board. I am in FTW also. I live just south of downtown off of 8th ave. We'll probably have a lunch get together here soon so keep an eye out.

Aww, you're gonna make me blush.

Yeah, Peterson's does good work on the Fort Worth side of the metroplex. They've probably set up half of the competitive Miatas in DFW, along with anumber of other cars. They'll let you sit in the car, they'll do whatever numbers you want (as long as you're specific with the up front that you wan your numbers, not their "extreme Miata alignment", which may be similar), and the rate is reasonable - less than $80 the last time I used them. Only problem is that they are a first come, first served kind of shop.

Yeah it will be nice to fetch the car this weekend. Been a long withdrawal. Right now I'm busy handling registration for a KC event next weekend so it will be nice to get the cord cut and relax for awhile.

Unfortunately the late date for Nats this year will take that off the calendar.

    We'll hook up

Welcome! I'm just north of the loop in Fort Worth, hope to see/meet ya. I had my toy into Peterson's for an alignment a couple months ago-they nailed the numbers with no problems. You can sit in the car or whatever you want.
