Thread: Internet Anywhere options

    Default Internet Anywhere options

What are the best options for Internet anywhere? My wife and I want it to be able to access the internet on the go to research and look things up. I'd like the UI to be easy to use as well.
    ...and across the line.

    After this Post (http://forums.dfwmiata.com/showthread.php?t=6362),

I'm thinking you need to spend less time on the internet.

Verizon, Cingluar, and Sprint all have wireless access plans.

In Texas I bought a cable for my Sprint phone that gave me internet access via Dial-Up Networking using the phone as a modem. Got about 300k up and down with Sprint and it took no minutes from the call plan.

Like this one, they make them for most phone models.

I've got one for the Nokia I no longer use that I'd be willing to part with for relatively cheap...

I have a cable that came with my phone but, I wasn't sure if that used any minutes off the plan. What kind of phone do you have? I have the Samusng A900 (Wannabe Razor).

Wouldn't this require you to drag around your portable computer everywhere ya go?? Other than Tailchaser how many folks have a portable computer with them at all times??

I had a few older Samsung phones, Treo 180, 300, and 600. I had cables for each. The deal is you are dialing *777 with Sprint via Dial-Up Networking which is a data only circuit so no minutes are used on the Sprint Network, since they have (had?) no limit on data.

Since moving to NC, Sprint has horrible service and Verizon/Cingular have the coverage needed, so I am not liable for changes to Sprint since I left them.

I also enjoy not having to work 24 hours a day like I did previously, so I now view portable internet access as an evil way to not disconnect from work.

I have a Razr and my wife has a Nokia. We also have a laptop so this might work out for what we need. We'll need a car charger for the laptop. Is it just like making a regular call or are the data transfers charged differently when using your phone as a modem?

What type of download speeds can I expect? I'm new to this whole cell phone as a modem thing.

We're actually using this when going to Estate sales. We want to look up what items are going for on eBay before we buy them to resell.

I've used the *77 with the Sprint network. The software I used to set it up was Snapdialer. Works great.
