Thread: Recumbent Bikes??

    Default Recumbent Bikes??

So I am thinking of picking up a recumbent bike to ride around for some excercise and fun. Does anyone have any experience riding these, or even have one I can check out. TIA

Why are you thinking recumbent? They cost more, weigh more, etc. You'd be better off with a traditional style bike, even if it's what's called a "comfort" bike, that has the handelbars higher so you don't have to lean over so far.

If you've recently ridden a traditional bike and were sore afterwords, it's because your body has to break in to the riding position (as well as breaking in the saddle). Just ride a couple times a week and for a week or two and you won't ever notice it again.

If so, then go fixed gear. It's what I ride. Much more elegant of a bike. No gear selection to worry about, simplier, breaks down less, etc. Plus you can easily convert an old steel lugged frame that look great.

Plano Cycling has some in stock, as does Richardson Bicycle Mart in Ricardson. I like the feel of them, but the cheapest one I saw was the EZ1 at $500. Both places will let you take a test ride.

Lots of fun, but I wouldn't want it for cruising around a neighborhood. Miata's tower over them like H1 Hummers tower over the Miata. They also tend to tilt on two wheels when you make a quick turn.

I think I would rather have a short wheel base two wheel bike with a higher stance.
