That's not wear. That's a flat spot from locking it up. Let me guess....right front?

Yes it was! I did it in four different spots on the same tire.....

Wacky part is it's all on the outside edge of the tire and with the camber I got in it you would think it would be more towards the inside of the tire...

Front tire? Even with max allowable camber a Stock Miata is still riding predominantly on the outside of the tires in corners.

I'm guessing you didn't spray tires yesterday, and it was a longish course with a lot of runs. Would I be right? Looks like you overheated the tires and chunked them.

That's what I was thinking........ Lots of big right hand sweepers yesterday, plus I was Mr. Rerun yesterday, so those suckers were hot!

That's what my tires looked like Sat. after the autocross, except bigger chunks on all 4 tires.

And it was at Mineral Wells. Tough on tires anyway. I did the same thing to three V710's there last month. I did not spray the tires then, but I did spray the tires yeaterday. BTW, I got 100 runs out of the first set of V710's on the Escort.

I haven't added it up but I did get a ton of runs out of this first set.

Would you like to buy a slightly used, autographed one gallon pump-up sprayer

I'm with Altiain on this one. I saw the tires at MW after the event, and they weren't the kind of damage you usually see with flat spotting.

Not sure about the overheating part, though. We never spray on the MR2, and haven't seen damage like that yet and we're on our 3rd set.

It's weird that it was only one tire. The way the rubber was peeling off it looked almost like a mfg'ing defect. Remember when the 710's first came out there were all those reports of failures...? POS's tires looked just like the pictures from that problem, but only the one tire.

Bob Neff just reported the same type of problem with his 710's on his Z06.

Here's the email he sent to the TX Region mailing list...

"I thought some folks might be interested in the situation I discovered with a new set of Kumho V710’s after the Solo event last weekend and that as a precaution you might want to keep an eye on your tires if you’re also running this brand.

While washing my wheels after the race I discovered one front tire had almost completely separated at the butt splice, in exactly the same manner that caused last year’s recall on these tires. The other front tire seems to be okay for the moment but looking closely I can see the beginnings of the same separation so I suspect it will exhibit the same condition at some point.

I took the tires back to Todd Eaddy and he told me this is the second occurrence he’s seen in the past month or so. Unfortunately Kumho has refused to stand behind the product so I guess after only 16 runs I’m out $450 worth of rubber – I’ve sent a letter of complaint to Rudy Consolacion but am not expecting a more favorable response from him. As opposed to their splendid response to the issue last year, Kumho seems to be ignoring the problem at this point.

The problem could be attributable to the excessive heat during the event – the thermometer in the Z06 was registering 105 most of the day, and we were having to spray a lot of water on the front tires between runs to keep them within a reasonable temperature range. That may have combined with the longer-than-typical-Solo course to contribute to the situation. I suspect the issue is also likely to be more predominant in the larger sizes on heavier cars such as the Z06.

That said, you may not see any issues on your own V710’s but it would be worth keeping an eye on them. Not to say all current tires are defective but these were brand new, only used for Solo, only on asphalt rather than concrete, and the failure would I’m sure have occurred earlier and with potentially more disastrous results had I been road racing the car."

Sorry, just noticed your question. Yes they were 710s.

BTW, they had around 90 runs on them.

I saw that but mine were fine on the seam, they just blistered away all the way around (see earlier pictures).

No big they were nearing the end of the line anyhow. I've had them since the start of the season. Hopefully the next set will do as well!

Man just 16 runs that sucks ......
