Welcome to the board!
Just change the fluids, spark plugs, wires and enjoy! They are very stout cars and easy to work on.

Nope... just use what you are comfortable with. The Miata is known for eating spark plug wires - you'll probably want to replace 'em every 30k miles to keep her in top running condition. Some use dino oil, others use synthetic...Originally Posted by adlin20
As far as working it over, you'll want to drain & refill the transmission and differential with Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil - that probably hasn't been done ever in the car, unless you bought it from one of us.
Check under the CAS (The round thing on the back left corner of the valve cover) for any oil leaks - the O-ring might need replacing. It's a common source for leaks.
After that check yer belts and hoses... all the normal stuff like coolant too. It may need to be flushed. One thing that is commonly overlooked is the clutch and brake fluids. Those need to be periodically flushed with new fluid. We're overdue for a tech day to do that but it's been too dang hot out. If your clutch fluid is low, keep an eye on it - the clutch slave cylinder may need replacing. It's an easy 20 minute job and a common repair item.
Other than that, you'll get hooked on modifying the car. The most common mods will be roll bars and new shocks. Many of us prefer the aftermarket AGX adjustable shocks. Best bang for the buck.
Oh, and: Welcome to the madness!
