I'm calling at 10:30 to find out. Until then I'm driving a dealer demo CR-V. I can see why you like it for commuting, but as an only car it's wholly unacceptable.

I even have the financing lined up. Wound up using eloan and damn are their rates good.

I wouldn't accept it as my only car, either... although with delaers offering up to $6k off of leftover '06s (with the "new and improved" '07s on the way), we're thinking about upgrading the '05 EX to an '06 SE. Mel wants leather and heated seats. Why heated seats in Texas? Don't ask me.

I hear ya on e-loan. It was a tossup between them or Capital One for financing on the RX-8. I went with Capital One because of name recognition, but they both had the same published rates.

I'm betting I get the car today. I still have their CR-V and I'm sure they'd like it back. I've spoken to the sales manager and the finance guy, and both seem confident that we'll be closing this transaction today.

I also asked them not to wash it. I've had very bad luck in the past with dealers screwing up my paint before I ever take delivery. That Emerald Green 2000 NB I owned took months to work all the paint swirls out.

I tried to buy a new base model Civic that a dealer had on the lot in '97. It had rolled off the truck a few hours earlier and still had the plastic on the hood, etc. I told them that if they could have it ready for me to drive off within 3 hours, I would buy it right now. They told me "no can do... but lets write up the paperwork now and you can pick it up tomorrow". I said nope... not paying for a car I can't drive off the lot. They let me walk. They were pretty pissed the next day when they called to tell me the car was ready and I told them I had just purchased a Certified pre-owned Civic EX from on of their competitors.

I'm a little confused. "Writing up" the paperwork isn't the same thing as paying for the car. At least, it wasn't for me. My deal has been "written up" for two weeks, but all I've given the dealer is a modest, refundable deposit check. It's the only way to get an Si these days (unless you want to pay over sticker).

I'm betting they figured he didn't have the $$$ and was just full of hot gasses. Bet if he had done the paperwork and had been deemed worthy (aka has the credit score to pay for the car) they would have let him take that night.

So what time can we expect pictures of the new ride???

Indeed. Titus does look like he'd have some skanky credit.

Titus: (testing an old fashioned expensive looking car) So, what advantages does this vehicle have over, say, a train, which i could also afford?

    Background:

My wife and I were sharing a 198X Nissan Stanza Wagon with 184k miles that would not pass SMOG. I had finished school 3 weeks earlier. I had been promoted from intern into my first job that paid real money the day before. I wanted a nice car. I had waited several years for it. I wanted instant gratification. There was no way I was going to waste 1 minute on paperwork unless it meant I would be climbing into my new car at the completion of that paperwork. I told the salesman this. He said "sorry... there is no way that I can deliver a Civic with A/C and 5-speed today within your budget. If you can take delivery tomorrow, you can choose between white, black, and blue."
