6-speed swap?
Anyone ever run across a later-model (gen 2) 6-speed tranny swapped into a 1st gen (NA/M1)? Pardon if I'm not up on the lingo yet... I'm a new Miataphile, converted from various RX-7 escapades of all generations.
Not a professional, but most Miata types would prefer the 5 speed versus the 6... but someone will come along with a better answer.
I got one of each (2002 & 1999) and I prefer the 5-Speed.
The swap can be done, if you have the $$$.
I like the 5-speed fine, but I wish it were a little longer-legged on the highway. Guess I'll get used to it!
The 6-speed tranny drops the revs on the highway by like 300rpm at most. Most definitely not worth it for that reason, and I personally prefer the 5-speed as well.Originally Posted by trickyrix
