Most Miata drivers like to show up at AX events running on fumes. YTankMV.

The needle was just above E. I would have liked less gas. I'm still trying to learn the fuel guage. The Escort has a low fuel warning light, indicating about three gallons left. I try to time it so that the light comes on about 25 to 30 miles before I get to the event. I have never had a fuel starvation problem. But, I have run out of gas once in Texarkana, second day of a two day event.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Be patient! My first events in the Miata were awfull after coming from a AWD car. I couldn't make a turn without spinning out. Think: Swaybars, Alignment, Tire Pressure, Tires.

Yeah, I tried the empty tank thing a while back for about three races. I got so frustrated because I was not doing well and finally realized why -- I had switched to an empty tank. When I went back to a full tank, everything started working better again. I tried an empty tank again on Saturday because that is how I am supposed to race and did not feel as good as I did today with a full tank. Perhaps it is just mental, but don't tell my other personality that. I know it goes against common practice, but it is what it is.

I learned something else today. When someone mentions trying left-foot braking, everyone warns you about pressing too hard with your left foot. You know what they don't tell you? That after 17 years of only owning manual transmissions, when I tell my left foot to go press a pedal, it automatically goes to the clutch pedal, not the brake. Whoops. That happened twice! I was able to pull it off once today and it worked nicely bringing me out of understeer. I'll have to work on it.

Just a side note for all that left early. They had fun runs but not like you have seen before. Karts wheel to wheel on an autocross course with optional slaloms. Think everyones sides were hurting from laughing so much. A real hoot to see the kids kart blow the side pods off the adults driving karts. Kids would blast by the adults down the back straight. Real close racing.
