If it turns out to be the cat, any suggestions? Magnaflows are cheap - FM's not so much, new OEM's $$$...

Odd... I was going to suggest that you try a place called Zoom Mazda Parts that I found, as they list 7 different direct fit 1.6 cats starting at $104.06, but it looks like they only have 1 1.8 cat at a not so great price. I guess I will have to find someone else to be a Guinea pig with Zoom.

I'm horrible at the different screen names, but Paul, the guy who bought Kags turbo BRG, Atiam maybe?, has a test pipe that I sold him that will fit. Maybe he'd be willing to help if someone can contact him, I haven't seen him on the boards lately.

I got the test pipe in today. Do you want to still borrow it? I can bring it by on Wednesday night.

While I was disassembling things for the oil pump replacement, I pulled the cat yesterday. Shake cat = rattles. Looking into the cat = loose stuff rolling around. Looks like I have my answer...

I ordered a Magnaflow/Carsound bolt-in cat this morning ($70 shipped ) so that'll go on when things get put back together.
