After running Gary's sc at Hallett it was time to give it back and buy my own so I purchased a new M45 last Monday. Yesterday, with some help at the Dogpound, the switch was made with very little problems. A slight idle issue was all that was encountered (fixed) and I am very happy with the results. It hit 7 1/2 pounds of boost at 7000 rpms in 4th during 2 tuning runs this morning with a 62.5 pulley and that was good enough for me. There may be some mods in the future to push a few more hp out of the system but for now it's great. Dino sometime in the future will show the end results. My thanks to the guys who assisted. Boost is FUN!!!

I think it's cool that you are making basically the same boost levels on a non-ported JR.
I put it to the "test" this afternoon out on George Bush and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the modified and the new one. I know there is going to be some hp difference but it is not noticeable on the butt dyno.![]()

I believe 65mph is faster than your Miata at the moment bwahahaha![]()

My guess is that is the result of the higher compression ratio of the '01 and higher cars. Both the ported and non ported M45s could probably make more boost, but that's the max for his engine. You can only take out so much timing before you're losing more power than your gaining from the boost. That's my guess anyway.

Yea, it is hard to tell 8-10 HP on the dyno butt. The TDR porting on the SC works best at higher RPM and I would recommend it only for those who are racing. If you can turn less RPM to produce power then liability is increased. The M45 SC in its stock porting losses its air flow efficiency early in its RPM range. The TDR porting increases air flow efficiency and intern moore boost.
It is a shame the '01+ cars can not handle much boost. You can turn the boost up, but the timing has to go down so the gain is not as much as say a '94-00 Miata. Normally we will see about 8-10 HP per pound of boost, but on the '01+ cars we only see about 5 HP gain due to the timing retard.
But hey, 180 HP is not bad place to be huh Tim?
