Nice shots! The white and tan one cracks me up!
Apparently, pet shots are required when you get a new Nikon DSLR! I took these the day I got my D70.

Woot! What kind?! I /Just/ got my 30D a week ago so I am starting to build a collection of lenses, the cheapie-but-goodie 50mm f/1.8 is getting ordered Friday, and sometime soon I'm gonna get the 70-200 f/4 IS L!

But I hear good things about the 18-200 VR lens for Nikon, save for the fact that its like winning the lotto if you can find one for sale! I had a 28-300mm on my pentax forever and loved that bugger, /so/ convenient but I always wished I had a 18-200 zoom instead. So I'd look into that lens if I had a Nikon!
How's the low-light focusing on the D50 majik?

I have been schlepping along with my Canon 10D for about a year. I still carry the instruction manual along all the time. I have two lenses, a Sigma 28-90mm f5.6 and a Sigma 70-300mm f5.6. I would like to add a 18-50mm to the kit, some day.

Get a digital that can use the same lenses if it's available.

I also own a Canon - I have the 300D Digital Rebel. Got the grip, extra batteries, the stock lens, a Tamron 70-300mm zoom, and a Vivitar wide angle lens somewhere around 18-33mm (It's at home so I don't recall exact zoom settings)... I also picked up the 400 series flash and a set of macro rings among a few other odds & ends.

Love the camera 99.5%. I just wish it had a RAW picture setting. There's supposedly a hack to run 10D firmware on it to get the RAW mode. I've been chicken to install it.

I've had Nikons for 20+ years and it was a huge selling point that I didn't have to buy all new lenses when I got my D70. In fact, since I'm enough old school that *gasp* manual focus lenses are ok with me, I've been able to pick up some sweet deals on some awesome lenses on eBay since nobody wants the manual focus ones anymore. Great way to get some nice glass, cheap. Which is not to say I haven't also dropped coin on some nice, new AF lenses, too! But getting a DSLR body that is compatible with what you've got makes taking the plunge a lot less scary/expensive!

The only greif I have with Canon and Nikon are the massive price for their IS/VR stabilization lenses!

Cutting down on your caffeine intake is almost as effective and a heckuva lot cheaper

With the kit lense it is pretty slow and under very little light it hunts around a little bit. From what I understand with good glass the camera is not bad at all. I am not good enough to really need anything better.
