Tow dolly is fine to use moose... I used one to tow the spec project back from TN. I just disconnected the driveshaft from the differential.
Now when I did it I drained the transmission and just didn't worry about the little bit that was left to drip out the back. You could strap up the driveshaft under the car where it is away from the differential and just leave it in the back of the transmission so the oil stays in.

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
Except think about where he is going. There probably isnt a good place to reconnect the driveshaft in a college parking lot and there is going to be a ton of other stuff to do rather than wrench on a car. I would go full Uhaul trailer just for ease of use.
Uhaul is great....pic of my mobile apartment after the divorce 6 years ago

I live where even the coyotes won't go...
Wow... she didn't leave you much, did she?
While I've never towed anything with a U-Haul trailer, I can report that buying the optional insurance from U-Haul will successfully cover any damage you might incur from bullet holes and/or security fences.

POS, how about that, you have neither of those vehicles or building anymore...
Improvements all around!
Yeah. That guy is a real horse's ass.
When I moved back from California I used Budget. U-Haul refused to rent me a full trailer or tow dolly once they knew I was hauling a Miata. They were also way cheaper than U-Haul. I just raised up my GC Coilovers and it was fine for the 1400 mile trip.
