That's pretty sweet.
Well, Gary, TtT, JohnWag, boisking, Magma, and I went to the dyno today. I pulled 185 rwhp, 164 torque.![]()
Nice!
And Timmy???

Very nice numbers! Congratulations.

congrats... have you been running 185 for quite some time now or do you have recent mods?

Wiseco Pistons 9:1, Carrillo Rods, ARP head and main bolts, FM valves +1mm and stiffer springs, new lifters, main bearings, cometic head gasket, port and polish head, ready for boost....
I upped the boost (added a smaller pulley) about a month ago. The previous best dyno was 149, but was also before I added the LINK ECU. I don't know how much of the 36 hp gain is the pulley and how much is the ECU. Some day I may put the old pulley back on for a run so I can see what part of the gain is from the ECU and what part is from the pulley.
Sounds like you'll be doing your own R&D... lol... expensive experiments...
any plans to break the 200 mark?

Very Nice. We all should have Dyno scores as pretty as yours =-D
I had 112.74 whp and 110 ft lbs.
Pretty good considering that my last run was 110 whp with 103.8 ft lbs.
Titus called the horsepower at 112.8 before the run.
I came in at 211 wp and 195 ft lbs, which made me very happy. We were running short on time and I was VERY impressed that we were able to make 6 runs in 20 minutes with no heat soak...Go Go TDR intercoolers

211 rwhp, 195 ft. lbs on 1/6/07
For fun, here is my run and Magma's run together. It looks like I have a little on him until 4400 and then he runs away.
Turbos have such weird torque curves. With a turbo you get that quick rush when it spools up verses a supercharger that has more useable torque thoughout the power band, but what a nice rush it is.
Dollar for dollar the MazdaSpeed Miata was a hell of a deal at $20k for the performance potential you get from this car. Most of us would change the exhaust ($300-600) in our cars even if they were normal aspirated so discounting this from the MSM upgrades, adding the much more efficient TDR intercooler ($1195) and a manual boost control ($100) and you've got about 55 more horsepower and 51 ft. lbs. of torque. Best bang for the buck.
Next upgrade for Magma, after he robs a 7-11 is to add the Greddy Ultimate as we are at the limit of the factory ECU and really need to bring the RPM up, 6500 RPM red line is not right!
Very impressed with Todds setup, being able to produce excellent power without having to spin the SC hard is good tuning, way to go Todd.
We also worked on Tims '03 M45 setup to clean up the fueling. Short on dyno time we have retuned on the street and brought is red line to 7500 RPM. Tim still has a stock header and midpipe so there is still some power left in his setup (8-10 HP). The newer '01-05 Miatas do not have the capability of high horsepower without adding a lot of boost and timing retard. However, with higher compression you have lower end torque and that is what your dyno butt feels.
Tim's car is a blast to drive and an ideal horsepower range at 171 HP and 165 ft. lbs. of torque. In comparison our last '99 Miata we tuned running the same pulley ratio, but with a better exhaust setup had 190 HP and the same torque of 165 ft. lbs. So you can brag about horsepower, but torque is what you feel.
The '01-05 car issues are the VVT setup and possible the intake manifold with its variable butterfly setup. In the '99-00 cars you have 4 longer runners and 4 shorter runners with butterflys that activate the short runners at around 6000 RPM. The '01-05 cars have only the 4 longer runners and use a butterfly arrangement in the bottom of the intake. I believe this is adding more restriction in the flow and perhaps can be improved on. Stay tuned as we just can't leave anything along, that's the inganeer in us.

how much boost is Magma running vs Titus?

I believe he was around 11 lbs, and I am at 9 or 10 depending on the gauge, but the amount of boost ran isn't really equatable to the amount power when you are comparing different sized engine and different types/sizes of FI parts. There are Turbo Miatas making 250hp on 6 lbs of boost while others are making 225 of 15 lbs.
