Well, I've already got holes punched in my transmission tunnel, so the CG Lock isn't my cuppa tea.![]()
Actually, at the Tour tailchaser & I only ran the 3" lap belt section of my 6-point harness, since neither of us clear the bar with helmet in the stock seat. I expected to feel slightly handicapped from having my upper torso free to move about (compared to using the full harness), but I actually think - in the stock seats, at least - that I preferred just having the lap belt, as I never felt like the shoulder straps were very effective with the stock seat anyway. It also greatly cut down the time it takes me to get settled into the car before a run.
The CG Lock sounds like a good idea (I've never seen one up close, so I couldn't really tell you one way or another), but I think that or a 3" lap belt ought to be a must for all you Miata autocrossers out there.
BTW, there has been some pointy SCCA talk that the CG Lock might not be legal for Solo II in a convertible, since it technically "modifies the factory upper body restraint". I don't think an official ruling has been made yet, but you might want to keep an eye out in Fasttrack. Ironically, since a bolted-in lap belt doesn't alter the stock restraints in any way, it's completely legal, even in a ragtop. Go figure.![]()
