Thread: Po-Po on my six!

    Default Po-Po on my six!

Speaking of run-ins with "the Law"

A few of us decided to drive over to the Shops at Legacy to take some photos. I was in a group with boisking, BAM!, driftdevil, JDMClassic and Adam Payrot.

V1 is screaming and showing radar coming from behind. Kept it at 40mph. John Q. Law is trying to be all slick being one lane over and behind another car but I know he's there. He must have been running my plate and/or looking for anything to pull me over. Good thing he didn't see I had no front plate. No rear license plate frame so he can't get me for obscuring it.

    He eventually gave up.

    This got me to thinking...

When a cop runs a plate, what information can he get? I assume registered owner and address. Can they then cross reference registered owner and look for driving history or warrents? Just curious. I have nothing to hide or worry about. Just wondering what info the get when they "run a plate".

When they run a plate, they get everything. Driving history (only what went on your record), warrants, address, all the info they need for anything. They have pretty cool equipment now, I've messed with some of it

They don't even have to cross reference to get most of the info, your address, phone number, oustanding warrants, how many points on your license, etc all comes up with just the license plate.

Yep what the MadMonkey said, plus several counties around here are now testing cars that read the plates without officer intervention. The system will alert the officer of any suspect vehicles. ::Borg::

What about when someone calls in your plate?

I had a woman (on cell) U-turn right in front of me, the comes into my lane putting me on the median.
I give her a nice long blast of the Caddy Horns to wake her up, but didn't say anything or gesture.
She then proceeds to cuss me like a dog as she sped past me.
I down shift and accelerate to ask her what her problem is, and she then called 911.
She had the window of he Benzo down so, I could hear her give them my plate.

I'm sure this isn't the first person to call 911 on me.
Ive pissed off a few idiots holding the speed lane I know.
I wonder if TxDot has a record of these 1 sided reports.

Mannn thats horrible, Sports cars should have their own seperate posted speed limit kinda like 18-wheelers do but in favor of the fastness. We can definitely accelerate, brake, and turn faster than any turkey in a van or (most) SUV's, so why don't they let us handle more?

Kinda a side note relating tickets.

Ok ok ok ok, riddle me this.
Back in November I had gotten a speeding ticket and we had this nice long ass thread that was like 6 pages long about fighting them and all that.
So it turns out I decided to do the defensive driving option.
So I went in and paid some money (like $100) for court fees and ...kinda like... never did the defensive driving part...
I remember them saying if you don't do it you still owe a remainder of like $70 or something... but I never paid that either.

    So...
Last weekend a cop pulled me over and I had been wondering if I've had a warrant or anything ever since I realized it had been over 90 days with no defensive driving. He was tailing me for a while then the lights came on and he said he had ran my plates. It showed that registration was out on the Miata and let me off with a warning.
I want to take care of it, but right now no one seems to care and its not on my record and maybe if I pay it all it'll go on there?

You are taking some stupid risks IMHO. You should have done what you agreed to in the first place. What will likely happen is they will eventually catch it. (Maybe the court is back-logged?) Then a warrant will be issued. Once they catch you, you get hauled off to jail. There you will have to pay the fine plus court costs to get released and it will then go on your record. Next time you renew your insurance your rates will go up and you will also get points on your license.

The alternative would have been to take DD and the ticket would have been wiped off your record completely. You also might have received an insurance discount for your DD class.

    Not so smart there Sparky.

I got busted for not taking DD for a ticket I got in Lott, TX.

Ended up costing me alot more than DD.

Okay you guys are wrong about what info they get. I should know I'm the one they call when they want to run a tag.
    1) they get the vehicle info and who and where it is registered
    2) they only get warrant alerts if you have one that is on that plate
    3) they can't (not allowed) to run your driving record unless they pull you over.
I'm not speeding officer, I'm qualifying!!!

Er, I misworded some of mine. Obviously they aren't going to get your warrant information with just the LP number unless the driver of the car is also the owner (it would come up with the registration info).

In La Grange where we lived it wasn't even necessary to call in their tags, we could find out if they had warrants out just by running their plate on the in-car computer. You can't find out someones personal info with only the LP number though, I should have mentioned that you need their DL number or similar info.

    Thanks for adding that

Yeah you need a DL but by state law an officer can't run a persons DL history unless they have the person stopped.

What info do they hope to gain by running the tag then? So my car is registered to me in McKinney. and....

Granted if the car was involved in a crime then I suppose it's valid but most cars are "clean".

I was pulled over for my plate being run. I was going the speed limit, signaled to change lanes to the left, got over, and he slammed on his brakes to get behind me and turned his lights on. He said he pulled me over for my registration being out (right... his front bumper was at my door almost the entire time until he fell back a little to get my plate, not to mention that he was on my RIGHT).

The real reason he pulled me over? My mom's neighborhood had an armed robbery, and my car was registered at her address. The cop tried giving me shit over having a different address for insurance and registration (wrote a check to the dealership and they did all the paperwork w/ the address on my check). The entire time he was near my car, he had his flashlight out and was trying to look in the backseat and trunk. I almost offered to open the car up and let him look at how empty it was.

He also asked me if I had my contacts on after seeing the corrective lenses part on my license. I offered to show him, and moved them around in my eyes before he even answered. Yes, both eyes, he saw me do the right one and asked about the left When I first did my right eye, it was "too fast" for him, and he wanted to see it again. So I leaned out the window as far as I could, and showed him, this time slowly so he could process it

To be fair, at this point I turned into smart ass mode. He had a lot more pointless questions he asked and I felt that what he was doing was plain harassing. I bet he was pissed that he couldn't find anything to give me a ticket for.

He didn't even ticket me for the registration either (it was only a week or so out). It was a waste of 10 minutes for both of us, even more so for him, as he could have been doing something a lot more worthwhile.

When they run the plates they are looking for warrants attached to them or what type of car it comes back to vs. what kinda car it is on, and it will tell when your registration is due.

Ah yes, many of tail sniffing here in McKinney. Luckily I've been here since '79 and know most the cops. As far as someone calling in from their cell phone, yeah they may be able to get the cops looking for you, but if they ARE able to find you, it is a he said she said situation. What proof do they have. If that's how it worked, I'd call on every punk I saw with a cheesy pep boy special. It just wouldn't hold up in court. Heresay.

I know that much, but is it recorded?
If 30 Soccermoms called 911 on me, would there be a accessable record of that?

Ive been harrased by Northlake, and a Keller cop that was in Trophy Club.
When i called him on it he says its actually Westlake and they contract Keller to be there cops. He harrased me for 30 minutes, with this sit and wait.
He ask me at least a dozen times if I had been drinking.
I told him NO (truth) until it just pissed me off.
I was on my way home from a Them! meeting at 2am.

I had a deerslayer redneck point a 12 ga. at me on 635, after zipping around him. (he was poking in the speedlane with his 4wheeler on back)
I called 911 with his digits, but they were like whatever.
A day I am glad I left the .45 at home.

Then when stupid soccermoms call they probably give them the same whatever. That would be my guess. Unless you are doing physical damage I doubt they are going to devote many resources to it. However I am not involved at all, that is just a guess.

The one thing I do know can get you in trouble is the finger. I passed a dude aggressively once because he was impeding traffic on purpose. I was not the only one to pass w/ fury, but the only one to wave. An off duty campus cop tried to push his weight by pulling me over. He said he did not have the authority to site me, but let me know it was a misdemeanor. OOOOHHHH! If you are causing harm or distraction, I guess they could go by a phone call. But, I would figure it would take all of 30 soccermoms before they figured it was time to do something. Besides, it's the one's w/ the soccer balls on their windows that are gonna kill ya! And if I see a "Share the Road" sticker on some big Ford Explorer, it get out of the way. Not to offend anyone if you fall into this category. I am just speaking from a few experiences and that is all they are. I am a father w/ 4 kids, so I know my sticker for the window is coming soon. HA!
