Oh, I'm not on the rider's side at all, but the problem is that the mainstream press seems to have decided we can all do 200+ mph with "minor modifications" because a cop with no experience said so.
Hell, I pulled a quick 150 on the Miata run a few weeks ago. If I'd been clocked, I would have had to suffer the consequences of my "unconscionable" act. But if I'd been busted for 205 on a vehicle that's speed limited to 184, I think I'd be fighting it.
The simple legal truth is that he was cited and arrested for lots of things that aren't based specifically on the clock. But when you write a guy for 205, you'd better be sure he was doing 205. He'll probably beat the speeding ticket because it's a black and white thing. He was either doing it or he wasn't, and he only needs to prove the impossibility of the act to be found not guilty. The wreckless endangerment, driving without a license, and anything else they got him on will probably keep him occupied for some time.
In the real world, this goober will probably plead to a couple of years of probation and a loss of the license he never had anyway.... and we'll never hear from him again until the next time he elects to show his immaturity. Meanwhile, the average citizen will continue to believe that streetbikes can do 205 with ease.

ha ha ha I agree if he was going 167 or 150 or whatever they need to be accurate because remember the law says Beyond a resonable doubt the inaccuracy would introduce doubt and if that is so then the original citaion would be thrown out then all the other stuff would have to be thrown out to because the probable cause to pull them over would be gone therefore any evidence collected after the fact would automatically be inadmissable in court therefore the two would get off scott free.
my dad is a state supre court judge in another state I asked him he said the logic was simple, the cop wanted to dramatize the event if he had just told the truth there would be no doubts but no he had to Imbellish a littel nad now the two go free
I persoanly think the two should fry but hey what do i know motorcycles= donorcycles and i have 2 of them so go figure

Today at MotoGP practice in Qatar, on a new track with a 1km front straight, the worlds fastest and most expensive roadrace bikes were only able to do 203 mph with professionals onboard.

Umm? I'm with Outrace here. I've watch some speed challanges, and bikes have a reeeaaaallllly hard time getting over 200mph as the areodynamics are a force that is hard to rekon with. The MC LSR is at least 333 in a 'liner. The open bike speed record is just a bit over 250 aboard a street legal 1300cc turbo'ed Hayabusa.
Make no mistake, the difference between 205 and 250 is about a bajillion horsepower.
Top speed occurs when the total drag equals the force applied thru the contact patch. If you apply more power to the contact patch than it can handle, the tire will simply spin and you will not gain any additional speed.
The real difficulty with bikes is the size of the contact patch. In order to apply more power to the ground, you need a bigger contact patch. The larger the contact patch, the less maneuverable the bike is. If you get a large enough contact patch, the bike won't steer at all, which means you can't keep it upright. It's a classic compromise.
