as long as it's a pre 07 model
Took a ride in theheroofyou's STi last night and all I have to say is I want one!!!! This thing is no only a practical family car but also an insanely fast and fun car.
What other cars can compare to it?
Four Doors, 0-60 in under 5 sec, and in or under the $30k range.
Now I have to figure out how to pay for it.![]()
as long as it's a pre 07 model
I got to drive it!!!!![]()
I said it after driving it and I'll say it again, I'd get rid of my miata for an STi. I was a subie guy before I was a miata guy.
What sucks more is that I work next door to the subie dealership. Every time I drive a customer car to the back lot, I stair at the line of subie's against the fence. Man, I'm working at the wrong dealership.......
My kid brother has one... I don't know if I'd go as gah gah as BR has, but they are nice cars.
My boss had an STi that he took out to MSR from time to time - it was VIOLENTLY fast, and loud, and nasty, and fun...!
Also got to drive a stock STi one Sunday morning a while back...
Very good times all around.

if only someone would make something like the cobb access port for all cars...
Speaking of cobb accessport, theheroofyou's car has said device. Considering that he has intake, downpipe and exhaust as well, makes for an extremely fast car with only few bolt-ons.
As I read the posts, I was reminded of my first encounter with an STI at MSR, when I still had the MazdaSpeed Protege. We ran a whole session with transponders and the ST1 was less than a second faster on his fastest lap. For 300HP vs 170HP, I wasn't impressed. The only places he was faster was on the straights (DOH!). I could make up most of his advntage in the corners.
Then as I got to the later posts, I realized this one you rode in was not stock, so maybe I would be more impressed. Then again, Track Dog would blow him away :)

I remember when theheroofyou told me his car had never lost to a 600. I fixed that the same night. BR, you should go out to the Suzuki dealer and spent 9,000 (MSRP + Fees) and get to 60mph way faster than any STi ever imagined was possible (drag cars excepted). As far as "family" goes, get one of those kiddie seats for a bicycle and strap it to the back. Katie will love it!

Well, depends on who was driving! I remember lapping an 03 Viper at Hallett in 03 in my 90 Miata! Gotta give the guy credit for taking it to the track and he did get an instructor.
Well, once he puts some real brake pads on it! I think he toasted the HP+ pads at MSR when we were there earlier this year. That car is too fast for those pads on a track, he's well beyond the recommended "light track duty."

I'm a big fan of the STi, but I've also watched two talented local racers blow up motors in them over the last year. These cars are both STU cars - stock boost, no R compound tires allowed, nothing but mild bolts ons and suspension work.
When we showed up in Walnut Ridge this past Saturday, there was another STU STi that had ventilated the block during practice runs.![]()

Last time I checked, Gary was running Hawk HT-10's!! The biggest factor in increasing his brake performance was swapping to the 10kg SWIFT springs up front and the 8kg SWIFT springs in the rear. His car doesn't dive like it used to.
The problem with his car was traction under braking. As the car would dive, one of the rear tires (typically passenger rear) would lock up. It happened to him a few times at MSR and he spun the car multiple times. Since the spring rate increase, he said he has noticed a vast improvement in handling, diving and braking.
