I haven't spoken to any locals on this issue...primarily because I bought azenis in stead.
This is true. Running on dry track conditions, a tire with a tread pattern like an RA-1 will typically last longer when shaved, and it will offer more consistent grip over its lifetime. Because the tread pattern has a lot of void compared to more modern competition tires, it has more tread squirm at full tread, and this squirm not only contributes to more unpredictable handling from the car, but it also greatly increases the tire's temperature.

Heat cycling is another good recommendation for competition tires. This involves bringing the tires up to a uniform temperature of about 150 degrees, then letting them cool and rest for approximately 48 hours. This allows the molecular bonds in the rubber to be broken and reformed, and it also promotes longer tire life and more consistent grip over the lifespan of the tire.

Todd Eady's Discount Tire in Carrolton offers both heat cycling and tread shaving on site, iirc.

In my experience, it is typically newbies that overheat tires more than anyone, because they tend to overdrive the car more.

Ok, heres the verdict on what we can get at a group buy

Cost Per Tire if we can get 5 people to buy sets: $116.85 + $14.25 Per shaved tire = $131.10

Cost Per Tire if we can get 10+ people to buy sets: $110.70 + $13.50 Per shaved tire = 124.20

This price does not include the cost of shipping. Approx an additional $5-8 per tire.

Approximate delievery time less than 1 week.

Anyone thats interested post the size tire you want.
    Blah blah blah!

Why is the 16" size so much? It's only 79 at edge racing. Do you offer good prices on 225/5016 and 245/45/16?

I might have got the tires mixed up I'd have to double check back with him. We only talked about 5 different types of tires. Perhaps we should just stick with the ToYo tires. Just to keep things simple

I need a set of non-shaved 205/50-15 and if they have a set of 225/45-15 for a 15 x 8 rim. What would be the price on the 225/45-15 shaved?

If we get enough people to purchase 40 tires this is what it will be.

    225/45/15
$120.60 for the tire + $13.50 for shaving = $134.10 + the cost of shipping

If we only get enough to purchase 20 tires this is what it will be.

    225/45/15

    $127.30 for the tire + 14.25 for shaving = $141.55 +the cost of shipping.
    Blah blah blah!
