Nice job, How much did that damplifier run you?
I've mentioned it before, but the weatherstrip around the driver door of the sled has had issues for a while. It finally got too far recently, allowing a few drops of water to wander in during heavy rain. I guess the bulge and tear should've given it away, right?
Anyway, I've got a couple of extra days off this week and decided to dig into the door for the first time since it's been with me. Trickyrix was kind enough to pop by and lend a hand in the efforts of the afternoon. Thanks, man!
The weatherstrip was suprisingly easy to replace once the door was apart. I thought it would be a chore. So much for that preconceived notion!
As is my standard style, one thiing kinda led to another. The Pioneer speakers that sammm installed (I think) are about to give up the ghost. Replacements are on order. But you know, there were a few rattles coming from inside the door...
Here are some lovely pictures for you.![]()
Holy crap...I have power locks! heheheheh
Pulled off the plastic sheet, removed the power lock module and degunkified the metal.
Rolled in some Damplifier (not TCB approved) inside & on the door
Finished up the sound deadener (or as much as I cared to)
Installed the squeaky clean, '94 door panel
I was too toasty warm to do the passenger side, but sound quality has greatly improved already, and road noise considerably less! Only about 3lbs added to the door, too, if that.![]()
More goodies on the way, too, so I'll be sure to pester you guys again pretty darn soon.![]()

Nice! I did the same thing. The Damplifier is good stuff. Here is a review on sound deadeners.
Tip: Goo Gone just eats up that black tar goo on the doors.
Here are pics of my more extensive install. I added less than 30 lbs in all.
Total used was about 60 sq/ft of Damplifier.
About 35 sq/ft of Overkill (closed cell foam)
A layer of Reflectix on floor board.
Two sealed bags filled with pink attic insulation stuffed in trunk tunnels.
This last one made a HUGE difference in lower noise.
Difference: Now I hear my engine and exhaust note instead of road noise and the drone eminating from the trunk.
Good times today, Steve! Gooood times! I wanna road test the your Damplifier when I can... sounds like that would be a nice addition to my car...
BTW, I bet we coulda used a whole quart of the Goo-Gone - it's the best thing going, but that black shit is very, very NASTY. The door rubber was a snap after watching/helping BR with his. And even though the rear roller on Steve's window was completely effed, just clearing the gunk out of the tracks freed up the action a LOT - but it sounds like he's got a new/used window coming to him courtesy of Gary's buddy. Thanks!
BTW, I think I'm going to start a Miata window regulator/door rubber repair/replacement service...

How is the wind noise from your canvas/glass-window top? My vinyl top howls and roars at speed (seems like the noise is more bearable with the top down... which is a little bit of a beating when it's 100+ outside). I'm taking a long hardtop-free trip this summer, and I'm trying to decide if I want to jack with a new top before or after that...

Looks like someone used tin snips on it.
Hell, I thought they used their teeth.
