Will you buy a CX-7? Why and why not?

Got an internet quote from Hiley for a sport (base model) for $19845. Sticker is $24345. They advertise $4.5K off every CX-7. My goal is get something new for my wife for under $20K.

The wife drives a Murano. I was disappointed that we had missed out on the CX-7, but they were still 10 months away from the dealership when we were ready to replace our MPV. Once they were out, we checked one out and decided that we still would have picked the Murano. The CX-7 just felt too small for us. The CX-9 is another story. We checked one out a few weeks ago and we were very impressed. The prices were higher than we liked, but they will get serious consideration if they are knocking off $5000 when we are ready to replace the Murano.

The CX-7's RX-8-like reported real world gas mileage has kept us from it. It looks nice, but we would use it as a long distance cruiser and gas mileage is a big factor.

That and according to Mazda, it requires 91+ octane... it won't exactly be cheap to run. Other than that, I really like it.

I got one for a loaner when the RX-8 was in the shop. I really liked it, it handled like a station wagon instead of a SUV and the low end/midrange power and torque were very nice. I was taking it around corners going nearly 40 with just minimal understeer tire squeel and some ricer in an Integra LS tried to race me so I ran him down by a few cars to his surprise.

The interior is crap, cheap plastics etc but I heard some people are buying the lower models for 20K plus tax so that's a steal. I put 87 octane in the loaner and it ran just fine and felt plenty powerful, didn't hear any pinging etc. I would highly consider it for the price range if I needed a SUV. My mom drives a Murano and I didn't feel the CX7 was much smaller if at all.

I end up with a CR-V. My wife wants one with better gas mileage and not using premium gas. Paid almost sticker for it. If it is for me, I wound have chosen the CX 7. For the same amount of $ you get a lot more equipments and power (not sure about the low end though). The CR-V also has cheap plastic etc. I hope the new 5-speed tranny is better the last gen.

I drove one at the zoom zoom event by Mazda, it was ok, but just not something I'd buy, I pretty much hate all of the midsize/small SUV's, although I did get my mother a first gen CRV over the phone years ago.

A dealership drove down, delivered it to her & picked up her trade. She paid a little less than sticker, but she sure got some awesome service with that sale.

She lives in rural Colorado & it's a bitch for me to get up there.

Actually it is a iV-tec! I also has a Honda lawn mover. Man, that mover only needs oil and gas. I have it for over 10 years and is till running like it is new! It starts with just one pull! I have been a happy Hondo owner.

I have been warned, I've never totaled another brand of car, I cannot own another Honda, I am in fear of my life. I should probably sell my tiller & mower before they go Christine on me.

Funny you say that. My wife's 97 Accord was totaled too! It was her fault.

I totaled a 1991 Honda Accord!!!

Drove home in my 1995 T-Bird right after hitting it. The lady in the car was rushed to the hospital for possible injuries from the accident due to the seat back breaking on impact. I had come around a curve and crest when everyone in front of me was creaping along on the highway at 5 mph. No brake or hazard lights on the cars ahead of me to warn me before seeing the inevitable. I was less than 10 feet from clearing her altogether per the tire tracks leading to the left sholder.

That 1995 T-bird was the most comfortable highway cruiser I have ever had. It put all my passengers to sleep when I commuted between Lake Chuck LA and Orange Tx.
