What I want to know is:

1. Do you have a automatic response security system
2. What service do you have
3. What does it cost per month
4. Any stories pro or con

4) They were very nice when they configured the system a few years ago. I have only spoken to them twice since then... Once I mistyped the code to deactivate the system, and once my wife did the same. Both times they called, and were very polite and courteous once we provided the proper information they needed to prevent DPD from being sent out. In the city of Dallas, there is also a separate permit you need... I think it is $40 annually. Arlington may have something similar.


[Off topic] This thread triggered an amusing memory about home security... My electronics teacher in high school was having a problem with something knocking the trash can over at night... He decided to place the can on a wood pallet, and then run power to the can (metal back in those days). If an animal touched the can with it's front paws with the back paws still on the ground, it would complete the circuit. He had a nice raccoon pelt hanging on the wall to show for his homebuilt garbage security system. [/Off topic]

Arlington (and other cities) now require you to have an alarm permit before the police will respond to a call. I think it was $50 a year.

4. They've been very good and I've had several false alarms with student renters and houseguests. Yes, the police will come checking on things. VERY QUICKLY.

Denton's fee is only $20 a year. Yay for me.

Is there a false alarm fee when the police respond? How much? Friend told me in Desoto it is $100 per response.

3. 32 bucks a month but 9 of those bucks is for a cellular transmittar because I don't have a home phone.
4. I splurged and got little key fobs that set and disarm the system. It comes in really handy when your backing out of the driveway and remember you didn't set the alarm. Dallas permit was a one time 50 bucks deal.

I've never been charged a false alarm fee but I suppose Denton may go that way eventually. When I got the system there was no fee at all, then a few years later they started charging a one-time alarm permit fee, and now it's annual.
