Any changes between 99's and 00's worth mentioning?
My B-stock RX-8 build is definitely putting a cramp on the Miata build. It was a matter of bad timing and decision making on my part so my loss is your gain.
This engine has 35k miles on it, and I purchased it for $1000 from Andy Hollis earlier this year. The bottom end was inspected and assembled by John Day performance engines and he painted the block and cleaned up the cylinders while he was in there. Everything was put together with OEM parts from Mazda Motorsports.
I'm asking $1100 for the motor with brand new waterpump and head gasket. I've also got a new Indigo racing crank pulley if you are interested.
I'd like to sell this locally or at least in an area where the buyer can pick it up.
I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
Thanks for looking!![]()

Why? I thought the 00+ has the variable intake or something like that and makes more hp!?they are the most desirable Miata engine to have.

Unless you have a '01+ ECU or something complicated/expensive like a TEC3 or Hydra, there is no way to control the VVT.
Also, I'm pretty sure the 99 and 00 motors are the only ones with solid lifters.
Either way, it looks like the motor is sold. I'll make an update if the sale doesn't go through.

99-05 have solid lifters, not unique to just 2 years. I am not sure about the NC.
I guess that means that if you swap it out with a previous generation miata, you have 6 reverse gears and 1 forward gear.
