Oil, I mean.![]()
OK... quick recap/update on my lifters for anyone who's interested. I switched from straight Mobil 1 10W30 to a blend of 3Q Mobil 1 5W30 and 1Q Mobil 1 ATF to try and improve my rattly lifters... I also switched from an AC Delco filter to a genuine Mazda filter, so this isn't truly scientific, but hey.
So... after running this blend for 750 miles, I can report much improvement. I only get a little bit of lifter rattle on startup (which goes away instantly once the oil pressure pops up), and the "hot-ticking" has disappeared. My oil still looks clean so I don't think I've knocked loose any sludge-bergs inside the motor. All in all, great success! I'll probably change the oil this week and go to straight 5W30.
