    Default LCD monitors

What do you guys think of this monitor? It seems like a pretty good deal to me. Any other suggestions? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116373

I don't know too much about monitors, but it looks like a pretty good deal.

Viewsonic seems to be a pretty reputable company, not generic. Also check ecost.com. They have some monitors on sale also.

Well I went and looked at the stores today. Compusa had the same monitor for cheaper if you bought a computer too. Well I didnt do that, so I went to best buy just to see what they had. I found a decent widescreen 19" for 179, and I am using it now, but it didnt have a DVI cable with it. That is 40 or so. So I ordered the viewsonic from new egg and Ill return this one when I get it. The only thing, so far I am getting headahce from using this monitor. Is it an LCD thing or this monitor. I have it set to 1440X900

Turn up the frequency on the monitor to as high as it can handle.

Sorry for being slow to respond... In reverse order...

Yup, Duane is on the nose... Make sure you're running any LCD at max frequency, since the max is the only one where stuff looks right.

Viewsonic = Good choice. Don't fret the crap heap you bought at Best Buy.

DVI Cables = I have plenty if you wind up needing one - $5. You can also buy them cheap at Tanner electronics - probably for the same reason that I have plenty.

The one on the UPS truck right now has a DVI cable with it. Hopefully it is better quality than this one.

    Well let's see here:
Most LCD run at 60 Hz. It does take a little bit to get used to LCDs when going from a CRT. Also most LCD's look bad at resolutions other than their "native" resolution. Since LCD's are digital it helps a lot if they are being fed over DVI as opposed to VGA. I goes like this: digital graphics card -> anolog VGA -> digital LCD = less than optimum display performance.

I have a Viewsonic N3250w and it looks great. I got it to get some more desk space because I was using 2 21" CRTs.

Bringing this one back from the dead.

I'm looking to replace my 20" Sony CRT. Also, if anyone is interested in it, let me know.

I'd like to not down size my screen. A 22" WS would be flippin' sweet. I've seen a few at the $200 range which is the top of my budget.

Another question. My video card only have a VGA out. Will this be a problem?

Pooter is only used for web browsing and photos. No games.

Only if the monitor you buy doesn't have an HD-15 VGA style connector.

Just be sure and look for a monitor that supports an analog VGA input.

Which will be most of them in your price range...

I strongly recommend looking at the monitors on display and picking one that displays images in a way that looks good to you. Monitors are very subjective, unless you need one with accurate color for professional photo printing. Take your tape measure. Measure the height of the glass on the monitor you currently have. Find an LCD with the same height (glass). That's what you really care about. In the same aspect ratio, an LCD that is advertised 1-2 inches smaller is marginally bigger than the same advertised size CRT.

Remember that screen real estate changes with wide screen... The width actually can be annoying for surfing - you'd usually rather have more height.

I went to Fry's and pick up this one.

I'm liking it so far. Opinions from the techies?

I'm now thinking of upgrading the video card to one with a DVI input. Would I see much gain from this as I don't do gaming or lots of graphics. Maybe a iTunes movie on occasion.

Optiquest are a crapshoot. Some look great, some don't. If it looks good, you've probably got a winner.

DVI really won't mean much... Too bad you didn't pick up the $20 video card from woot.com yesterday... What video slot do you have on your motherboard? I (or someone else) probably has a low-end card with a digital output lying around for cheap...
