Thread: Slashed Top, grrrr

    Default Slashed Top, grrrr

Like the title says, today my NC's top was slashed and my CD's stolen. Guess I should have locked the center locker, but enough should-haves. Does anyone know how much a new vinyl top is for an NC? Of course I could call in for a price, and I will, but they are closed for now. So I was wondering if anyone knows how much they are and if it's possible to buy just the fabric. The rest of the structure is 100% ok.

A quick search of the aftermarket top makers show none available for the NC yet. The OEM prices will make you gag. Links below, but you may want to sit down before clicking on them. Have you considered turning it in to insurance?

Already called the insurance and an adjuster is coming. I was just hoping the fabric would cost less than my deductible. No such luck.

Those better come with a happy ending! Cripes, those are expensive.

That would be enough motivation to trade it in for a power folding hardtop, I hate BS like that and am paranoid leaving the convertibles out anywhere (mall, movies etc)

Sorry to hear about your top. I hope everything turns out well with the insurance claim.

Even if you locked the center console, they still could have slit the top and cut up your interior too. Where were you parked when this happened?

My apartment's parking garage. The access controlled parking garage It requires you to have an RFID tag attached to your windshield to drive in or an RFID keyfob to walk in. However, people are always slipping in behind people so it is always best to keep things secured like you were in a public parking lot.

Take it to an automotive upholstery shop.

Years ago when the new models of Mustangs came out with a convertable top (early 90s) my boss had one get the top slashed. He took it to an upholstery shop and they disassembled that panel section from the top, used it as a pattern to cut out a new piece and stitched it all back together.

MUCH cheaper than a whole new top.

My top cost nearly $400 and took me 8+ hours to install. It was a frustrating pain in the ass to install that thing and I don't want to have to do it again for a long long time. Nothing in my car is worth that much... So it stays unlocked. I'd rather them take $20 worth of CD's, cigarettes and pocket change than have a big rip in my top.

A friend of mine had the top on his Jeep TJ slashed and the radio and some other stuff stolen. The kicker was that his doors were unlocked and the idiot thief never checked.

They can't slash the top if it's down!

Of course thats not so easy on a jeep.

I had warrenty work done by the dealership due to a bur on the top mechanism cutting a hole into the original top.

Eldorado sent it out to Dee Trim Shop, according to the service adviser, to have it replaced. When I got it back, a week later, I noticed that it was off to the left about 3/8 inch. The top is bunched up on the sides at the front panel abd streched tight on the rear panel. I have been back to Eldorado and been given the run around 3 times since, but they don't want to send it out again. I guess I can't complain too much directly about them, but it sure is frustrating to have a factory original top screwed up.
