    Default Back home!

    WOW...

Took the kiddo on a week long father-son road trip in the Miata.

We left Saturday and just arrived home at 5pm tonight. We visited Clifty Falls State Park, Kings Island Theme Park, Wright Patterson AFB Museum, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum (and the track tour), took the "other parents" (best friend's mom & dad) out to dinner in Indy, took grandparents in Missouri out to dinner, and dug for diamonds in Arkansas. (we didn't find any)...

The drive was FUN and the car was a stout performer. If you get a chance you MUST drive from Harrison, AR, down to Hot Springs, AR on AR-Highway 7. There was a sign (didn't get a picture of it) saying "WARNING: steep grades and sharp curves next 37 miles" - that road was GREAT!

Overall - Average road speed of 62mph (city and highway driving total) for a total distance of 2329.9 miles.

I'll post some pics later... once I get 'em off the camera and onto the computer.

PS: Yeah, I was sick in the head and took my laptop with me on the road. Even though I was on PTO I had a project for work that had a deadline.

Nice of you to let your son drive without a license while you worked on your deadline. You had the lap top so why aren't the pictures downloaded

2300 miles alone with your dad is awesome. Way to go!

I'd be interested in your route, since Briar and I are planning a trip to Wright-Pat, then to "Gathering of Mustangs". (late Sept)
Might as well include some fun roads, but time is going to be at a premium.

We went interstates most of the way. I-30 to 40 to 55 to 57 to 64 to i-65 before picking up some small roads to finish the trip to Madison, IN. Then some small roads and interstates over to north of Cincinnati to visit Kings Island. On the way home we went to Columbia, MO to visit my dad & stepmom and took the back roads down into Murfreesboro, AR to dig for diamonds.

For a fast trip to there just take I-30 to I-40 to I-55 to I-57 to I-70 and take I-70 straight to Dayton.

On the way back take I-70 over to Saint Louis then pick up I-55 to I-64 to I-44. In Springfield take US-65 south to Harrison, AR. Once in Harrison follow AR-7 all the way down to I-30 near Arkadelphia.

I didn't follow 7 all the way down there. In Hot Springs I took back roads to Murfreesboro and then down to Hope to find an available hotel room. Dang fishing tournament in Hot Springs had all the hotel rooms booked. The new GPS I picked up had area hotels in it - with phone #s - which made it easy.

Sharpie - it's the wife's camera. I don't have an SD reader and didn't have a USB cable with me. My camera uses CF cards. I took hers as it is small and fits in the center console. Mine is a Canon Digital Rebel and space was at a premium for a week long road trip. We had no space in the trunk on the way home after some creative packing to fit all the souveniers in the car.

Thanks, How long did it take you to get thru Wright-Pat?
How long do you think would be ideal?

We plan to arrive Dayton Wed eve, and hit NMUSAF 1st thing Thurs.
Stick around til 12.30 Friday to see Memphis Belle, then hook it to C-bus.
Spend the rest of Friday, Sat, and most of Sunday at Gathering.

Monday point the barndoors towards Propwash!

We spent almost 3 hours there and didn't get to see much of the middle hall. We skipped it to go see the moon rock and the cold war era items as the kiddo was getting tired.

Bring lots of memory cards for your camera!

Oh, we also didn't do the guided tours of the outside items either.

When I was a younger POS I would go visit my Grandparents who lived in Dayton, we would spend the Day at Wright-Pat. We would go at least once a year, ah memories.

A few year back I took Vivid an we spent an entire day, it's an awesome place! Do the Behind the scenes tour, it's awesome getting to see them restore some of the the planes.
