Hey, now -- that's what I think whenever I see a Spec Miata!

A Spec Miata is still a Miata. It just handles even better! With that big chunk of iron up front, it's good for nothing but going in a straight line...................... :)

There's a lot less iron in an LS1 than there is in a 1.6 or 1.8 Miata motor...

True, I'd say the biggest problem with a LS1 Miata is the inability to put some 315's on the back.

Kinda makes me wish somebody had a nice LS1 NB for sale somewhere... I'll be due for a second Miata sometime sooner or later.

I take it from the comments that no one is able to answer the OP? Surely there is one in DFW that is a member....

OK, the Flyin' Miata kit looks like it would be an easy conversion. I'd like to see front/rear wieights before and after. It is still a very expensive conversion unless you can find a wrecked CTS-V :)

You can buy the CTS diff new from GM for about $650, and cheap used LS1s and T56s are as close as your nearest junkyard, since they came in tens of thousands Camaros ('98-'02) and C5 Corvettes ('97-'04).

I think you're still looking at about 5 grand for the motor and tranny though. A friend of mine is putting one in his 240sx since the KA just gave up. He's using the truck version with iron block and an automatic transmission since they were only $2500 both, he said the LS1 and T56 was double that.

    I can't even find a WC T5, much less a T56, in a junkyard.
A used GM WC T5 will cost over 700.00, which is why i'm using a FoMoCo T5 in the T

I may end up putting a Tremec TK in the truck, they are only 2k new.
