Thread: Old piano disposal?

  1. #1

    Default Old piano disposal?

Anyone know how or where to get an old POS upright piano disposed of? I don't have a truck and this thing has been sitting in my garage, preventing me from parking my car in there. It's driving me crazy.

I know I could haul it to a dump but honestly it still works and could be fixed up, i'd feel bad throwing it away, but it's in such bad shape I doubt anyone would want it. Plus I shiver everytime I think about having to load it up in my buddy's truck. I've also thought of the whole craigslist thing but don't feel like dealing with wierdos.

Is there a service that will come pick them up for a small fee? Is there a schedule for particular cities heavy pickup times?

If anyone knows of a piano shop that wants a project let me know, or anyone here wants it it's yours!

Put it to the curb with a 'FREE' sign on it. I'd give it 3 hours tops.

I got rid of a bunch of junk here at the office in Euless just by listing it on craigslist in the free section did it all via e-mail!

Hmm..I thought about that, but also the possibility of having to push it back up the driveway scared me away. Plus it rained for 2 months straight.

Maybe i'll do a combo CL add with it sitting on the curb with a sign.

Check with local churches or schools. They can pick it up if they want it.

I wonder if Hudson's plasma cutter would be of benefit once again.

I bet after it caught fire the disposal would mostly take care of itself.

My mother might want it if it fits on my race car trailer.

She had to sell hers a few years ago.

+1 for the plasma torch. I mean putting it at the curb... but put $50 on it. If ppl think it's worth something, they're more likely to take it. Besides, it's not supposed to rain until like Sat or Sun... Post in CL and kick that puppy to the curb!

It would need a lot of work to look and play nice, but the price is right :)

The keys all work, all internals seem to work fine. The paint is coming off the keys and there is water damage to one of the cover panels. It's been sitting in the garage for I don't know how long so it's dusty. I'll be pulling it out this weekend and you're definitely welcome to come look at it.

Im sure it would fit on a trailer with enough ratchet straps.

I just put an add on craigslist free section, but if you or anyone here is interested i'll hold it.

Chop it up and put it in the recycling bin, it's wood and metal
I did that with my washing machine (it was metal and plastic, both recyclable)

Wow I woke up to tons of emails to the CL add...im shocked! We'll see if one of them materializes. I think there's a guy that's ready to come pick it up as soon as he can so if anyone here wants it (Snowdoggie) let me know ASAP. I'll give him a call probably around noon. It'll hopefully be gone by tomorrow.

    Contact the Salvation Army (Google).

They will pick up large items with a truck.

They have training programs to teach people how to fix things.

Ask about the piano. If they take them all you have to do is tell them where it is and put a sign on it that says Salvation Army pickup.

Ask for a receipt, estimate it's worth, and take the deduction on your 2009 tax return.

Other than that, free Craigslist sounds promising.

Hmmm...that's not a bad idea. I would definitely donate to a good cause if I could. I'll look into it.

I doubt the piano could be restored without incurring significant expense especially after getting wet and exposed to dust/dirt.

Put a sign in front of your house that says, Dead Piano Storage.
