So, they couldn't cut the weight and they stretched the wheelbase. Oh well. I guess I didn't need 3 Miatas.

Eric, haven't seen you at MSR lately. Where have you been?

It's very hard to get the weight that low with current safety standards and expected amenities while still keeping the price point. You should give them more credit for keep it as low as they have.

Who writes that horseshit in Autocar?

The longer bonnet is partly necessary to accommodate Mazda’s new SkyActiv petrol engines, which employ a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold that takes up a relatively long space to encourage free-flowing air out of the combustion chambers to improve efficiency.
The same 4-2-1 exhaust manifold has resulted in the ‘long bonnet’ dimensions of the new 3, whose bulkhead and cabin are pushed back by 100mm compared with rivals.
Umm... One is a transverse mounted engine (3), the other is longitudinally mounted. A 4-2-1 manifold on a longitudinal engine makes it WIDER, not longer.

IMHO, one looks like Lexus roadster and the other looks exactly like the AMG SLS. I think those article authors are just attention hoes. I think most of info is made up just to get more hits on the site.

The pictures are not real... The Autocar one even says under it "This Autocar image shows how the new Mazda MX-5 might look".

Kinda surprised they couldn't make the lower weight. My Mazda2 is is less than 2400lbs., I would think a 2 seater with all the skyactiv tech should be pretty easy to get to 2300lbs or less.

    (1) Didn't anyone else pick up on the fact that both of these "articles" are almost purely speculation?
    (2) Even if they were written as fact, do you believe everything you read on the internet?
