    Default Granbury ride yesterday

    All,

I thought of this ride too late Sat night to invite anyone. (It was midnight - sorry)

My (still) stock '06 NC just rode so incredible. What a fine car it is. I'm so glad I traded in the '01 Miata. As much as I loved it, this is a better driving car. I'm thinking about adding the Roadster Sport exhaust soon. Just hope it has no hum at cruising speeds.

Anyway, it was a nice ride Sunday to Granbury from frisco. Perfect day for it. I took freeway to get through Ft Worth, and then took 371. It was funny because when we exited off 371 to go over the bridge to Granbury it dawned on me that that was the turn that some of us ended up on by mistake on the ride to Hico. I thought that road looked familiar. We never hit the Granbury town square on that ride.

I'd like to find a route that wasn't so much freeway though. Has anyone done this ride going further West arond the Metroplex? I'm thinking maybe...

    121 to 35E
    1171 to 35W
    114 to Rhome
    Springtown to Weatherford to Granbury
    to Breakfast Buffet!!!!!!!!!!

Granbury has some nice restaurants. Much better than most little Texas towns.

That was 377....... You were just getting to the good roads, but yes, there are some better further west. Rhome to Springtown to Weatherford to Granbury still has a lot of boring roads, but a bit more scenic tham 377. There are lots of little off-shutes that are fun. Benbrook to Aledo and south is fun. So is Old Springtow Road.

I know the good stuff was beyond Granbury, but my wife wanted the town square kind of stuff. <g>

Thanks for your input. I'll try some of the roads you suggested next time.

Default Try this route west of FW

Loop 820 in Fort Worth, west on Interstate 20 west out of the metroplex.
I exited at highway 180 into Weatherford as I like the scenery which includes the downtown restored stone courthouse and circle around it.
I left Weatherford and headed on to Mineral Wells. Even though this road is straight I like the roller coaster elevation changes. About five miles outside Mineral Wells the top of the hills are dug down with nice rock outcroppings.
As I top the final hill coming into Mineral Wells I am greeted by the large un-restored hotel in downtown which used to house hundreds of folks who came for the healing water wells within.
I continued on 180 west and as I passed through Palo Pinto I looked at their stone courthouse. I noticed a café on the west side on the square and circled back to the Palo Pinto Café. I sat on the front porch and enjoyed some of the best sweet tea and fried catfish I’ve ever had. The waitress was friendly and I had lots of talk about my red ST sitting among a half dozen Harleys.
I headed west and then south on highway 4 into what started looking very much like the Texas Hill Country. Lots of elevation changes and switchbacks and then rose from a valley.
About eight miles and I turned west onto highway 3137 and then south on 919 through Gordon where I refueled.
I kept going south on highway 4 until I turned east on highway 1188.
I stayed on 1188 until Morgan Hill and then on east on 1189.
These were very good roads with great surface coverings and bent and twisted up and down valleys.
At Lipon I headed east on highway 4 again through Tharp Valley and into Grandberry.
Grandberry is a very nice town and the river crossing is superb scenery.
I headed northeast in highway 51 back to Interstate 20 at Willow Park.
From there it was slabbing it into Forth Worth and retracing my route home again.
I made it home safe and had a great ride of 286 miles in mid seventy-degree weather.
