Thread: Spark plug wires

    Default Spark plug wires

I've washed my engine a few times since I bought the car, and more than once I've ended up with water down in the spark plug holes. Yeah, I try to avoid spritzing water down there, but with all the rubber that pokes down into that hole and caps it off, you'd think there would be a little more water resistance. Am I wrong here? Are the rubber caps supposed to seal the holes?

Maybe I'm a little too picky (and spray-happy), but if I'm going to be monkey-wrenching under the hood, I'd like to keep it clean in there... without wetting the plugs!

Just keep spraying, but dry the plug holes out when you're finished. Use compressed air or my favorite, a rag on a screwdriver.

Yup... I carry canned air along with rags and screwdrivers when I go to the car wash - just in case!

POS is the engine washing guru. Maybe he has some ideas too.

Compressed air works.... as long as your valve cover gasket is good.

If it's bad you'll shoot oil and water up in a nice little fountain... all over the clean engine. BTDT.

I pressure wash my entire fleet regularly! For the Miatas I always use the air compressor to clear out any water that may get in the spark plug holes. Also the little feet that go on the end of a cane fit in the spark plug holes nicely, they ya can pull the wires and clean that valve cover real good!

Oh and I'm a huge fan of simple green stuff works great!
