Default Buying stuff from Canada, do we pay tax?

I know when you sell something from the US into Canada the person on the other end has to pay Canadian duties and taxes on the item. When we buy something from Canada and have it shipped to the US do we have to pay duties and taxes to the US govt?

I've learned to do my Christmas shopping from Canadian vendors, when the recipient is Canadian. So I definitely understand why you are asking, but I have absolutely no idea what the answer is.

If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

No idea but when I have bought from a UK vendor I was able to skip out on VAT and only paid a reasonable shipping charge.
