Default Raise your rev limit to 8000 rpm - $45

    Hey guys,

I've got a 4.43 MHz crystal that will overclock a factory '90-'00 Miata ECU so that the engine will rev to ~8000 rpm. Never used. I bought this from a forum member several years ago when I was thinking about building a mild CSP car, then forgot about it. Found it again yesterday while cleaning some stuff out of the garage.

More details on this mod from the pointy board here.

Hey moto and jrj512 - this would be a cheap - and legal - way to make a little more top end power and move the rev limit up on an STS car.

    $45 OBO.

I'm fairly sure they already have that mod.

HA! I was going to say the same thing. Just came back from TWS and did the 5-2 shift twice. 8000 is nothing. I did well over 8K

On an AX course, you sometimes reach your rev limiter in second gear. In that case, you often ride it for the few seconds until you need to brake for the next turn instead of shifting into third gear for two seconds and down shifting back to second gear. Increasing your rev limited lets you keep accelerating for the extra two seconds and thus, decrease your time.

This mod is not legal in stock class, but it is typical in classes that allow it.

Why were you in fifth at TWS? Unless you're FI, you would never be fast enough for fifth.......

Then you ain't coming out of the esses fast enough.

You shift into fifth on the front straight about 200 or so yds past the start finish, a little before you turn in to turn 1. You are still full gas coming down the banking through turn one and downshift to fourth for turn two. In the draft its earlier. If I didn't I would be well into the rev limiter.

This is the 2.9 road course CCW and a 1.6 spec miata.

What kind of speeds does a Spec Miata see on the front straight at TWS? You guys have got a lot of balls turning down for 1 w/o braking.

I am going to guess. It depends on the wind direction and if in a draft. I think max is around 115-120. I have some data somewhere that will show actual top end. I'll look it up on Monday.
