    Default Hardtop toploc flaws?

I'm wanting to buy the toploc for my hardtop. I want to know if there are any flaws first before I do. I've heard from other forums that there is a gap in between the two bolts that a pry bar could fit into. What are talks thoughts?

I always blindly believe information posted on other forums - if they say it is bad then it is bad.

    Nope.

But if it was me I'd get the Spec Miata plates and bolt the top down. Cheaper and harder to steal only negative is it will take you a bit longer to take the top off the car.

    Here is a link - http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda...t/61-0540.html

My wifes 2002 Miata has a factory hardtop and we just run the factory latches during the limited period the hardtop actually sits on the car has worked pretty good for nine years. IN the near future if the kid decides to take the car to college I'll buy the brackets if she wants to take the hardtop. YMMV

I've heard of tops being stolen in California, and one in Austin, but has it really made it to the dfw theft ring? This is why we have insurance. If they want it they're gonna get it eventually.

The Rennenmetal brackets are a little nicer than the Good-Win brackets, and only $3 more plus Texas sales tax more expensive. If you search around, he offers discounts.

trickyrix has a TopLoc. Not sure if he has used it yet, though.

Yep, I bought a used pair and they look to be pretty stout. Although in typical tricky fashion, they're still sitting in a box on my desk.

+1 on Rennmetal brackets...if you can get the factory latches off. I had a HT stolen when I was in Little Rock.

If that's the case, then you are a purse carrying pimp. I can post it on the pointy board too if that helps.

The only problem with them is they leave a bit of a gap between the toploc and the latches. If a thief really wanted your top, I would think a crow bar would easily pry the lock off. If you want, you can try my locks and see for yourself. With the new roll bar installed, I'm not using my side latches right now.
