Thread: Strut stiffness

    Default Strut stiffness

Alrighty, heres a potentialy lame question..

How stiff are say the KYB GR2 Gas struts or Tokico HPs compared to their adjustable counterparts like the AGX and Illuminas on their toughest settings?

Haha I was just wondering if the GR2s were around the same stiffness as the AGXs could be... cause they're $100-something cheaper...!

I had the AGXs on my 92B&T... loved 'em... you'd end up lovin' 'em too... (just not in a 3Bean kind of way) you can adjust the stiffness on them to your liking. You can't do that with the fixed ones.

BTW, the Tokico shocks are the worst unless you get the Illuminas.

I have also have AGX and love them.

The GR2s suck. Stiffer than stock and really to stiff for the street. I had them on a 95M and was not happy. I have the AGX on my current Miata. No complaints. Go with the adjustability of the AGX and you will not be disappointed. Best bang for the buck on Miata dampers.

    BTW, they're shocks, not struts.

For the money it's really hard to beat the AGX. I ran them when the car was in E-stock.

It's a sweep then, AGX's! I got them and my dad has them on 3 of his miatas.

Just sprung for 2 sets, found a seller on eBay that gave me a break on shipping.

    $538 for 8.

So what do you guys do for dust boots?

I used some OEM from Trusseville. I've heard of folks getting a better deal on some aftrrmarket ones at 4x4 shops.

It's true... I got mine from a 4 wheel shop in Fort Worth after I asked for truck dust boots.

Anyone used the Fat Cat Motorsports 54mm bump stops?

Am thinking of getting them & these: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294917581

They're recycling the old bump stops, but I'm considering going for the FCM BS's

I am tossing around the idea of getting them as a TCB substitute for the FM rear shock towers. I here that that have a similar effect of reducing the effects of hitting the bump stops on lowered Miatas (but not as good as the pricey FMs).

FCM doesn't have a shopping cart or anything, but I went ahead & ordered the shock covers from Summit.

Will order the bump stops when he sends me an invoice.
