Thread: Wheel offset and lowered suspension

Default Wheel offset and lowered suspension

I was thinking about the suspension on my 97, and I was wondering if the scrub radius changes as you lower the car. My train of thought is that if lowering induces camber, then the steering axis also changes.

Mine has recently been lowered about 1.5", and I was wondering if I need to try to modify the offset of the wheels with spacers to get the scrub radius to intersect the wheel centerline as it does at stock height.

Good question! By my train of thought, no (I have been wrong, and I don't have time to really simulate it although I would like to). It would not change the scrub radius.

If you think of the wheel/spindle assembly the only way to change scrub radius is to change the mouning points of the control arms. Doing so would change the scrub radius. You can tilt the spindle (camber) all you want, but unless you change the relative mounting points on the spindle, the scrub radius will not change.
