Thread: autoX cheat

    Cool autoX cheat

I don't know any rules for autocross so some of you
may see me as a joke but check this out. IF you change
out your ecu for an engine management system then
that puts you in a different class aigh?

Some ppl have shown increments of 8-12hp just with
a rough tuning with a megasquirt EMS, with everything
else stock in the car (injectors, cas, O2 sensor...)

If you see here in this pic...
to the left you have the stock ecu...
and to the right you see a full stand alone EMS,

so why not hide the EMS inside the stock ECU?
get the juice of tuning your car while competing
in the same class, would this be a cheat, lol...

this one's for you RJ, lol...

Wiseco Pistons 9:1, Carrillo Rods, ARP head and main bolts, FM valves +1mm and stiffer springs, new lifters, main bearings, cometic head gasket, port and polish head, ready for boost....

Wouldn't be hard to make it fit... but seat time would improve my times more than a cheat.

At the higher levels of the sport, where Protest and Impound often plugs into your OBDII port, you'd be caught and ejected from the event.

At lower levels, you'd just be a slimy, cheating jackass. If that's your thing then go for it...

... but Mouglie, since my class allows MS, I might need your help. I would love to run one in my car.

If you need help assembling it I can do some killer soldering.

Thanks! I may take you up on that offer, but I've got a EE at work that's interested in the project.

Does the MS need to use a MAP, or can it keep the AFM? My LINK board bolts inside the stock ECU case, but it requires you to replace the AFM with a MAP sensor, which *I think* is not legal. What did Andy end up running in his STS2 car?

I think he wants to run a MS with the AFM. I'm not sure if it works. I don't think he's done anything yet.

Maybe he will stop in and comment... I know he lurks here occasionally, and this tread title should be more than he can resist.

Last I heard MS used a MAP for engine load. I am not sure if it can use an AFM. But there are a lot of resourcefull people out there who run MS and that may have changed.

Amen. While some of us can't help being jackasses, nobody should ever cheat. Why would someone go to such lengths to cheat at a sport, anyway? Isn't the whole point of winning to feel good about it/accomplish something meaningful?

So far, I'm the only person registered in NGS. Does that count?

BMW, S2K and PCA are pretty much "run what ya brung" for miatas. X, Miata, Miata R or J class. ER and SCCA have some (OK, a lot of) classing rules. If you are not stock locally, talk to you class competitors. They may not object to your running non-stock. altiain is right about divisional, national tours, prosolos and national finals. Those guys will protest if the badging on your car is not correct. Last year at Walnut Ridge, an OBDII reader was used on every car with an OBDII port.

I think I heard some one say "If you can't go fast with 90 hp, 900 hp won't help." Work on the loose nut behind the wheel. Seat time. Seat time. Seat time.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Like the Tire class (which I am in), they use PAX times in order to lump all novices into one class. For example, you could be racing against someone in NCS, but they will use percentages of the raw times to arrive at a more or less fair and comparable index time. I can't find the actual PAX indexes at the moment, but let's say your PAX is .90 and the NCS PAX is .85. That means you will get 90% of your time and the NCS guy will only get 85% of their time. That way, you can race against faster cars (making a larger group) and still win.

I think PAX times are about as close as they can get to reality. However, I don't think you will ever hear someone say, "My class has a really good PAX index." It' just part of racing.

I'll look for you on Saturday and Sunday. I'll probably walk up and start talking to some other joker in a Honda...
