Thread: Lawn Trimmer Recom.

    Default Lawn Trimmer Recom.

Recommendation of a good budget lawn trimmer? The TCB Poulan P3500 after 3 seasons is RIP. The carb is leaking fuel and won't start. I have a couple blisters on my fingers to proof that! The replacement carb is over $50 which is almost half of a new P3500. Wonder anyone has good luck with anything else.

You know this is not a good week for me. My car got hit from the back a couple days ago and now I have to buy a new trimmer!

Ethanol rots the fuel lines. Are you sure it isn't just leaking fuel lines. BTDT

I bought the Home Depot brand with a Lithium battery a couple of years ago. Always starts, light, quiet; works great for the average homeowner for 1/2 hr a week. It would not be adequate for a lawn care service trying to do it 8 hrs a day.
I got the Lowes lithium battery mower a couple of weeks ago when I needed a new mower.

I generally don't buy budget.... I have a Stihl FS-85 that I bought in 1997 that, other than some occasional maintenance and adjustments, is still going strong...

I love my P3500 twist-n-edge. Its cheap, easy to load, and no need for an edger attachment. I always put Stabil in my oil-gas mixture and never leave any in it over the winter.

Ethanol ate mine up this winter too, and I had it for 10 years never an issue.

I've started using ethanol-free fuel for all of my power equipment. It's expensive at $12 per gallon, but I only use about $100 of it each year -- well worth the aggravation and damage that the ethanol causes. I get it by the gallon at Keller Outdoor Power.

Wow. I pay about $3.40/gal. at the local farm co-op.

Good to know -- I'll have to look for one that's reasonably convenient to me. I wince when I buy the stuff.

Until the revenuers get after him for bootlegging fuel without corn liquor added!

Side note: I found a gas station on a recent trip that had an ethanol-free option. It cost about the same as premium but was only 87 Octane. As much as I'm opposed to the corn lobby's forced ethanol, I figured I'd vote with my wallet and pony up. I got about 10-14% better gas mileage on that tank. I wish I had the option all the time.

Correct, I don't believe they sell race gas... only VP's small engine product. I could be wrong though, as I believe the owner is a drag racer. Worth a phone call.

There's is a race gas shop near TI that sells the 100 octane pure stuff for about $9/gallon. I buy about 5 gallons each year to fuel my lawn equipment. Makes them smell better too, like mowing behind Madarash or a mod car. :)

Been buying the VP at HD as well. I second the Stihl, even used i think they are better than some of the other HD stuff. Also +1 on the smell being akin to hanging out at the races.
