Thread: 06 nc has power. Won't start

Just checked the draw on the battery with a voltmeter and it stays on 12 volts the whole time. So I'm thinking power isn't making it to the starter.

Unplugged both sides and tried. It was the same.

Pretty sure you have to unplug and jumper it to over-ride the interlock.

That sounds right. That removes the switch from the circuit. IIRC, depressing clutch causes the switch to make contact between the two wires, completing the circuit.

I just unplug the one that gets pressed in when you push the clutch and just jumper that one side or unplug both and jumper them to each other?

Take a picture and post it here? I have no idea what other switch you are talking about. But you should only have to jumper the one that gets pressed in when you press the clutch.

I'm having trouble adding a pic from my phone. There's a switch underneath the peddle with a plunger that gets pushed in when the clutch is pressed in and there's a switch on top with a plunger that is let out when the clutch is pressed in

    Construction
    • The starter interlock switch mechanism prevents vehicle surge when the engine is started, enhancing the
safety. The engine cannot be started unless the clutch is depressed.
    • The mechanism is provided with a starter interlock switch on the circuit between the ignition switch and the
    starter.
    Operation
    • Depressing the clutch pedal presses the starter interlock switch rod. At this time, the starter interlock switch is
on, and the power circuit to starter closes. Accordingly, the starter operates only when the clutch is depressed
whereby the engine can be started.
Even has a picture and a wiring diagram!

I don't know how to read a wiring diagram. I get the picture I just couldn't tell which one it was. Either way I jumpered one and then the other and then both. Didn't have an effect

Here is a video of how a clutch interlock switch works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a3cGGfZ1Tg

The start circuit is normally open. When you press the clutch, you close the circuit by making contact between the two wires, inside the switch. You need to put the jumper between the two wires.

This video shows how to test the clutch interlock switch in the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a3cGGfZ1Tg

    Neither video is a Miata.

Pull the start relay and jump the 2 bigger contacts with fairly thick wire, does the starter turn? That will at least rule some stuff out.
