Tell your friend to do himself a big favor and install it himself. Some people seem to really be intimidated by the idea of installing their own top, but they shouldn't be. If I can do it, anyone can. It's time consuming, but not that hard.
Seriously, most shops are going to want somewhere between $200-300 for this job. If your friend has any type of mechanical skill (i.e. the ability to use a drill or turn a wrench) he can do it himself and spend that money on something else. If he can get you or someone else to help him out, you should be able to do it in an afternoon.
All you need is a few wrenches, screwdrivers, a drill, a rivet gun and a few rivets.
These are a couple pics of my top about a year after I installed it. My fiancee bought the top for me as a surprise and she got a tan one... After a year, I decided I wanted a black top, so I dyed the tan top rather than buying another.
