They have all of these small diesel powered cars here in Europe. Why can't we get them in the states. Small, efficent, nimble and powerful. What more do you need?

I agree. There are several models I think would be popular in the US.
1series diesel wagon? I'm in. The terrible small cars we get here...
Big Oil companies keep them out of the US
I think it has more to do with the fruits and nuts in California who decided that hybrid/electric is the best route, which in turn dictates the direction for the rest of the US.Quote:

My friend used to have a diesel Golf. Getting over 40mpg certainly makes up for the price differential to gasoline (at least when compared to my Miata mpg). And I did enjoy the low end torque that's hard to find in a high mpg gas car. Still considering one for a DD.
Maybe something to do with those old diesels GM tried to sell. I've driven a Rabbit diesel for work, and other than being under powered and a little stinky, it wasn't any worse than a corolla of the same era.Quote:
