The trouble you were having sliding the trans back in was probably due to having the clutch disk almost perfectly aligned on the pilot bearing, or having the transmission almost perfectly in-line with the engine. After you do a lot more of these, you will be able to trim the amount of time it takes to complete the job. Hopefully, you don't have to practice on your own car anytime soon.
