You can prepay or register on site with ER. We have some BS cars already signed up for the event this Sunday so you will have some good competition.

I'd like to think I'd be competitive, but I haven't run an autocross event for over 18 months (I've been on the track instead), so realistically I wouldn't be much of a threat. Still, I remember autocross being a lot of fun, and it would be good to see "the gang" again. Having said that, I don't see a lot of the old gang signed up yet...?Quote:

If you haven't installed the coilovers, wait. You would need a new alignment anyway after the install or the handling would probably be awful. Without the coilovers, you are in ES (E stock), and you shoudl still run in Novice.Quote:

The main thing for you to do in-advance is ensure your car meets safety and tech. Anything loose, broken or leaking needs to be fixed. Your battery must be very secure, bring a duffle bag to stuff all the loose crap in your glove box, console, trunk, floorboard, etc. Check for loose wheel bearings (grab the wheel and rock it, it shouldn't move much), broken/damaged steering parts, and any loose body parts or underbody plastic.
This is all pretty obvious stuff, but its worth your time to give the car a good once-over so you don't get turned-away for something fixable. Tech isn't super-picky, but they obviously need to look out for the safety of the workers as well as keeping the course free of oil/fluid leaks and delays from cars breaking-down.

I hear your concerns about Rapide PAX. We get them every year and discuss them in board meetings. In fact, we have a board meeting tonight at Marshall's and welcome non-board members to bring their rapide pax or other proposals to the meeting. ER has always provided an alternate source for SCCA style autocrossing. We added the Rapide PAX as a bonus to give extra seat time. It has been very beneficial to the club because the extra money allows us to buy new equipment and services. The competitors like it because they can compete against people outside of thier class and there is a chance at winning some money.
Now comes the tricky part. Some entrants have invested lots of time and money putting their cars and themselves in top form for their class. Those folks rise to the top and deserve to win their class and Rapide PAX. When we start giving other people better handicaps because they choose not to spend the time and money then we start stepping on toes. Somebody in open class gets bumped from the payout if we allow a bigger handicap for street tire.
It has been proposed that we set up a separate Rapide PAX system for street tire cars. This might be a better choice but there are problems with that too. There is a minimum participation level for Rapide PAX. If we have at least 10 entrants then we break even with only paying out the top 3 places. If we have 15 entrants then we break even paying out the top 5 places. ER is a corporation and can't afford to lose money.
In the overall scheme of things, the Rapide PAX does not come close to recouping cost of participation. I think I figured out that my Datsun cost around $50 per run for tires and gas. That doesn't include entry fees, expenses, and maintanence. Street tire cars cost less but still won't come close. So PAX is more like an expensive trophy than it is a money making scheme. It should be viewed more as a way to get more fun out of a day doing what we love.
As I said before, We are always open to proposals. If you think you have a solution that won't cause grief to the open class PAX winners and won't cause ER to lose money then please bring it to the board meeting tonight. Until a solution presents itself we will continue to provide an exceptional SCCA style autocrossing outlet for the DFW community where you can get 6 runs in a day for $30.
I understand your point. Giving the street tire guys an adjustment of .975 will not move them to the top of the PAX class, (unless Mark runs street tires) really it will only move them up a few spots in most cases, but they would feel that they had a fair chance. Also the top guys could run street tires and save a lot of money and still win if they wanted too.
I really like ER and plan to run all of the events but looking at last years numbers somethings wrong that needs to be fixed.

I don't think we have enough people at the monent to have two PAX classes.
Really can ER keep going with the 20 guys that are able and willing to spend lots of money to win, or do we need the 60 guys on a budget?

You should sign up. You will have fun no matter what class you end up in. All this talk about tires and classes are just nit picking tiny little details. 99% of it is driving skill. Take Ken for instance. He has spent approximately $187,000 on his car and still comes in last place every time.Quote:

Bigsr, definitely sign up, come out, and have a bunch of fun participating in the event. Don't modifiy your car yet, and don't worry about what class you are in... all of that can come later. Make sure your car is in good working order, clear out the loose stuff in there (CD cases, cameras, loose change, bongs... leave that stuff at home), and come out to play. When you get there, look for a Miata and say "hey, I'm Bigsrturbo on MME... can you help me figure out what's going on?". Aliain took me out with him at my first AX many years ago, and I couldn't believe who hard you couuld drive a Miata! - Signing in at Registration and figuring out your class
- Walking the course with you
