Movie-intensive weekend...
I ended up hitting two (count 'em, TWO) movies last weekend. Oddly enough, they shared a common thread that you might never think of...
Friday Nite - The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard:
This one is pretty much over the top, starring an amalgam of actors from Anchorman, Step Brothers, and Hangover, along with PCU's Jeremy Piven, James Brolin (in a highly uncomfortably yet genius role), and some hot strippers. It may not be consistent or evenly paced, but dammit it's funny - it's got some damn funny running gags, along with a really slutted up saleslady (Derek's wife from Step Brothers, BTW). Will Ferrell makes a surprise uncredited appearance as well. If you liked Anchorman, Step Brothers, etc... you'll probably enjoy this brand of jackassery. I sure did.
Saturday Nite - District 9:
It's billed as a "documentary style" movie, but that's about half-true. It's got a couple of good concepts, and it's fun to watch, but I'm not sure it quite lived up to the big buzz. The aliens are well-done and nasty-looking, and the action is decent. But for some reason I was expecting something along the lines of 28 Days Later - and it's not nearly up to that level. It'll be a good DVD rental when it comes out.
The common thread? Both of these flicks make mention of some kind of Nigerian trade scam... gotta love it.
