What are some of the cars to have to be competitive in certain classes?
Look at the top cars in each class.

Remember the cars don't make the driver. The driver makes the car.
What class do you want to run?

That makes 0 sense. Just because the course is the same for everyone doesn't mean it's not more ideal for some cars and less for others. Ever heard the term "course dependent"? I was stuck at the top of 1st and would be in the 3000 rpm range in 2nd where as some cars were at the 4,500+ RPM range in 2nd or had 400 ft lbs of torque. I also had the steering rack at full lock and could barely make it around some of the tight pivots.
How do you think I got beat by 3+ seconds by the same Z06 that I beat by 1+ second at MW earlier this year? We were both on the same tires (him R's, me street tires) I beat you by 1.5 Sunday (2.5 raw time) and 5 seconds at event 1, you think the driving is really that inconsistent?

The course was not ideal for any production car made. No one at the event could use that as a handicap. Just accept that you did not drive well that day -- I know because I watched you drive by me several times and you did not appear very comfortable. It happens to all of us.
You don't get the point very easily do you? Yes the course sucked for everyone, but not to the same degree and not for the same reasons. Even a bad driving day doesn't explain a 4-5 second swing from the normal gap at other venues on other courses. .5-1.5 maybe, 4+ not a chance.
Course style can make a huge impact. Why do you think some cars are very competitive in a Pro Solo format and not in regular Solo?
I couldn't shift to 2nd my in car. The car tops out 1st gear at about 42 mph. If I shift to 2nd at 40 mph I'm back down to 5,000 rpm and on the 1st cam with a whopping 107 ft lbs of torque. If I slow down a little bit to say 25 mph for the slow u turns I'm now at 3,000 rpm only to need to shift back into 1st and rape the rev limiter. The car is just geared where it's out of the powerband or out or revs everywhere instead of having one gear where it can pull from say 4,500 in the slow stuff all the way to redline. I was probably in the rev limiter not accelerating for a solid 2-3 seconds for the duration of each run or I could have gone to 2nd and bogged my way around the course.
Man, you guys are making me want to autocross again :D I've been pursuing too many other interests lately.
just wondering what class my ms3 would be in
D stock I believe
Yep, Dstock. Wrong thread though ;)
So what does it take to build a competitive STS-class Miata? What year/model is the one to have? Typical must-have mods?
