Put the compressor in a closet or shed to help defeat the hearing destruction device that is attached to most modern compressors. It will need some airflow for cooling, but don't set it in the middle of the shop.

Make the garage bigger than the house.

A car wash bay would be cool with a floor drain and curtains to keep the surrounding area dry or maybe a separate single car garage as a wash bay.

Lots of built in storage with doors and everything everyone else said.

Realistically, a drain, a large sink, 220 AC, insulation, insulated door, 3 spaces with the extra 4 feet, a taller ceiling, extra lights, AC outlets all around (perhaps even isolating the garage on its own electrical sub-panel), a finished floor, and some sort of enclosure for your water heaters and compressor.

All these are relatively easy to ask for now...

Let's be honest... a couple of really good fire extinguishers...

Seriously, a good way to ventilate the place... don't want gas fumes to ignite...

A couple of things I would like in mine:

Some T5-HO or T8-HO Flouresent lights. A Whole House/Attic Fan.

It's a pretty efficient way of helping to cool down a very hot attic... which can translate into a very hot house during summer months. The fans are mainly on at night to help quickly evacuate the hot air that has accumulated in the attic. It helps from having to run the AC at night.

The other plus is when the outside temp is comfortable (open window weather), when you open a window and/or garage door and turn on the fan it creates a great breeze thru the whole building.
